Iraq FA Cup
The Iraq Cup (), commonly known as the Iraq FA Cup, is an annual Single-elimination tournament, knockout association football, football competition in men's domestic Football in Iraq, Iraqi football organised by the Iraq Football Association. First held in the 1948–49 season for clubs and institutions, it returned in the 1975–76 season as a clubs-only competition. The tournament usually begins with several rounds played between lower division clubs, twelve of which advance to the Round of 32, where the Iraq Stars League clubs are entered. This is followed by the Round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final which is played as a single leg in Baghdad. The winners of the competition are awarded a place in the next season's AFC Champions League Two group stage. The winners and runners-up both qualify for the Iraqi Super Cup which is played at the start of the following season. Al-Zawraa SC, Al-Zawraa are the most successful club with 16 titles. Iraq Football Association
The Iraq Football Association (IFA) () is the governing body of football in Iraq, controlling the Iraq national football team, Iraqi national team and the Iraqi football league system. The Iraqi Football Association was founded in 1948 and has been a member of FIFA since 1950, the Asian Football Confederation since 1970, and the Sub-confederation regional body West Asian Football Federation since 2001. Iraq is also part of the Union of Arab Football Associations (founded in 1974) and the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (founded in 2016). Sharikat Naft Al-Basra (), known as BPC for short, was an Iraqi football team based in Basra which represented the Basra Petroleum Company. They became Iraq's first ever national cup winners when they won the 1948–49 Iraq FA Cup that was played by teams from across the country. Erbil
Erbil (, ; , ), also called Hawler (, ), is the capital and most populated city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The city is the capital of the Erbil Governorate. Human settlement at Erbil may be dated back to the 5th millennium BC. At the heart of the city is the ancient Citadel of Erbil and Mudhafaria Minaret. The 1986–87 Iraq FA Cup was the tenth edition of the Iraq FA Cup as a club competition. The tournament was won by Al-Rasheed for the first time, beating Al-Jaish 4–3 on penalties in the final after a 1–1 draw. Al-Rasheed also won the 1986–87 Iraqi National League to complete the double. 1984–85 Iraqi National League
The 1984–85 Iraqi National Clubs League (First Division) was the 11th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. For the first time in Iraqi football history, three points were awarded for a win instead of two. The tournament reached round 21 with several postponed games from previous rounds, and on 23 February 1985, the Iraq Football Association (IFA) officially cancelled the league. This was because the league schedule was conflicting with the national team's World Cup qualifying campaign, which was considered to be the priority. Iraq National Football Team
The Iraq national football team () represents Iraq in men's international football and is controlled by the Iraq Football Association (IFA), the governing body for football in Iraq. Iraq's usual home venue is the Basra International Stadium. Iraq have made one FIFA World Cup appearance in 1986, scoring a solitary goal against Belgium. Iraq are one of eight current AFC nations to have won the AFC Asian Cup, claiming the title in 2007 in spite of difficult conditions and limited preparation. Iraq defeated some of the favourites in the competition including Australia, South Korea and Saudi Arabia. The 1984–85 Iraq FA Cup was the ninth edition of the Iraq FA Cup as a club competition. The tournament was cancelled at the semi-final stage with Al-Rasheed, Al-Sinaa, Al-Shabab and Al-Tayaran being the four teams still remaining in the competition. Al-Tayaran had eliminated Al-Talaba in a Baghdad Derby in the quarter-finals, winning 4–3 on penalties after a 0–0 draw. The competition was cancelled along with the 1984–85 Iraqi National League due to the national team's World Cup qualifying campaign. Al-Talaba Sports Club () is an Iraqi professional sports club based in Al-Rusafa, Baghdad. Its football team competes in the Iraq Stars League, the top flight of Iraqi football. Founded in 1969, the club was named Al-Jamiea but became known as Al-Talaba ahead of the 1978–79 season after being merged with a new club of the same name. Their home stadium is Al-Talaba Stadium. Al-Talaba are one of Iraq's most successful teams having won five league titles, most recently in the 2001–02 season. Al-Rasheed Sports Club () was an Iraqi sports club based in Karkh, Baghdad. Its professional football team played in what is now known as the Iraq Stars League, the top tier of the Iraqi football, from 1984 until 1990. The club's home stadium was Al-Rasheed Stadium. Founded in 1983 by Uday Hussein, the son of Saddam Hussein, Al-Rasheed were promoted to the top tier in their first season of existence and went on to win 3 league titles in a row, 2 FA Cups, 3 Arab Champions Cup titles, and reach the final of the 1988–89 Asian Club Championship. Newly-promoted club Al-Zawraa won the league title and also won the Iraq FA Cup to complete the first national double in Iraqi football.
