Al-Najaf FC
Al-Najaf Sports Club () is an Iraqi professional football club based in Najaf. They are members of the Iraq Stars League. Al-Najaf has competed in the 2007 AFC Champions League. History In 1960, the city of Najaf began an active movement to establish a sports club after the athletes then felt the need of the city to a sports club that absorbed the energies of young people and their creations which are almost lost in the amateur leagues. Some of the dignitaries of the city were contacted for this purpose. The request was submitted to the Ministry of the Interior, which was responsible for the authorisation of sports clubs in Iraq at that time. The name of Al Ghiri Sports Club was proposed for this institution. In 1961, the Ministry of the Interior approved their request to establish the club and thus wrote the birth certificate of the first sports club in the city of Najaf and consisted of the first administrative body of Messrs. Al-Najaf International Stadium
Al-Najaf International Stadium () is a stadium in Najaf, Iraq, which opened on 5 May 2018. It is used mostly for football matches, and serves as the home stadium of Al-Najaf FC and Naft Al-Wasat SC. The stadium has a capacity of 30,000 spectators. Construction, which cost US$83.75 million, was funded entirely by the Iraqi government. Design The final design by Kansas City-based 360 Architecture won the competition, and was selected by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Iraq), Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports. The first proposed design included an athletics track, but it was agreed to construct a football-specific stadium. The sports complex also contains two additional stadiums, accommodating 400 and 2,000 spectators, mainly used for training. The religious ornaments and mosaics on the outer façade are inspired by Imam Ali Shrine, Imam Ali's mosque which is 10 km from the stadium. Nadhim Shaker
Nadhim Shaker Salim (; 18 December 1958 – 11 September 2020) was an Iraqi football player and coach of the Iraq national team. Playing career Nadhim Shaker was one of the most talented defenders in Iraqi football history. He began his playing career at Al-Amal in 1976 before moving to Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya the following year and staying with the club until 1988. He then became a player-manager for the Al-Salam club. He played for the Iraq national team from 1978 till 1986. The defender represented Iraq at the 1979 World Military Championship and at the 1986 FIFA World Cup finals in Mexico playing against Paraguay, Belgium and the hosts, Mexico. Abdul-Ghani Shahad (; born 7 March 1968) is an Iraqi professional football coach and former player who is currently manager of Naft Al-Wasat SC in the Iraqi Premier League. Najeh Humoud
Najeh Humoud (Arabic: ناجح حمود حريب) is a former football coach of Najaf FC and Iraq. He played in midfield for Kufa FC in the 1970s, and the Najaf province team but never managed to play in the Iraqi first division. He began his coaching career with Najaf FC in 1987, and helped the club to their first ever cup in 1998 as his team beat Al-Shorta 4-0 at the Al Shaab Stadium to lift the Umm Al-Maarak Cup.
