2019 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships
The 2019 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships took place at the Faleata Sports Complex in Apia, Samoa from 9 to 13 July 2019. Together with that year's Weightlifting at the 2019 Pacific Games, Pacific Games weightlifting competition and 2019 Oceania Weightlifting Championships, Oceania Championships, they were held concurrently as a single event designated the 2019 Pacific Games, Oceania & Commonwealth Championships. Athletes from certain countries were able to contest multiple championships simultaneously (including age-group variants). Results shown below are for the senior competition only. Apia
Apia () is the Capital (political), capital and largest city of Samoa. It is located on the central north coast of Upolu, Samoa's second-largest island. Apia falls within the political district (''itūmālō'') of Tuamasaga. The Apia Urban Area (generally known as the City of Apia) has a population of 35,974 (2021 census). Cameron David McTaggart (born 30 September 1997) is a New Zealand weightlifter. He won the gold medal in the men's 81kg event at the 2019 Pacific Games held in Apia, Samoa. In 2018, McTaggart represented New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia. He finished in 7th place in the men's 77kg event. Jack Opeloge
Jack Hitila Opeloge (born 21 August 2000) is a Samoan weightlifter who has represented Samoa at the Pacific Games and Commonwealth Games. Opeloge comes from a weightlifting family. His brother Niusila and his sister Ele both won gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, in New Delhi, while his brother Don Opeloge won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. At the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia he won a gold, silver and bronze medal in the 81 kg division. At the 2021 Oceania Weightlifting Championships he won gold in the 102 kg division. Brandon Dean Wakeling (born 2 February 1994) is an Australian weightlifter. He won the gold medal in the men's 73kg event at the 2019 Pacific Games held in Apia, Samoa. Muhammad Erry Hidayat
Muhammad Erry Hidayat bin Muhammad Hidayat (born 24 November 1999) is a Malaysian weightlifter. He is the son of the country's former weightlifter Hidayat Hamidon who was the 1998 gold medal medalists in weightlifting at the 1998 Commonwealth Games. He has won several medals in various competitions, including a bronze medal at the 2019 SEA Games in Manila and a silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Erry also won a bronze medal at the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam and renewed the National 73 kg Weightlifting record by lifting 316 kg. Achinta Sheuli
Achinta Sheuli (born 24 November 2001) is an Indian weightlifter who competes in the 73 kg weight class. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, he set a Games record of 313 kg and won gold. He lifted 143 kg in snatch (Games Record & equal to his previous personal best) and 170 kg in clean & jerk. Gareth Irfon Evans (born 18 April 1986) is a Welsh weightlifter. He has competed in the 62 kg and 69 kg weight categories, and was selected to represent Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics. Early and personal life Evans was born to North Wales parents then resident in Dundee, Scotland, but the family moved back to their home in Holyhead, Anglesey before Evans started his schooling.
