Jack Opeloge
Jack Hitila Opeloge is a Samoan weightlifter who has represented Samoa at the Pacific Games and Commonwealth Games. Opeloge comes from a weightlifting family. His brother Niusila and his sister Ele both won gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, in New Delhi, while his brother Don Opeloge won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. At the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia he won a gold, silver and bronze medal in the 81 kg division. At the 2021 Oceania Weightlifting Championships he won gold in the 102 kg division. At the 2022 Oceania Online Cup he came second to his brother Don. Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead: these are the snatch and the clean and jerk. The ''snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. Don Opeloge (born 13 May 1999) is a Samoan weightlifter. He won the gold medal in the men's 96kg event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England. He won the silver medal in the men's 85kg event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia. Opeloge comes from a weightlifting family. His brother Niusila and his sister Ele both won gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, in New Delhi. At the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, he finished in 9th place in the men's 85kg event. In 2018, he won silver at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Queensland. In 2019, he won the gold medal in the men's 89kg event at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships held in Suva, Fiji. 2022 Commonwealth Games
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations that took place in Birmingham, England between 28 July and 8 August 2022. Birmingham was announced as host on 21 December 2017. Apia () is the capital and largest city of Samoa, as well as the nation's only city. It is located on the central north coast of Upolu, Samoa's second-largest island. 2019 Pacific Games
The 2019 Pacific Games was the sixteenth edition of the Pacific Games. The Games were held in Apia, Samoa, returning there for the first time since 2007. It was the third time overall that the Pacific Games were held in Samoa. The event was initially awarded to Nukuʻalofa, Tonga, but the Tongan government officially withdrew from hosting it in May 2017, amid concerns the country could face economic difficulties if it proceeded. These Games included an additional discipline for basketball, which is the 3x3 format, as well as the return of archery and badminton which were not on the 2015 Pacific Games program. 2018 Commonwealth Games
The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and also known as Gold Coast 2018, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth that were held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between 4 and 15 April 2018.
