2016 Adana Student Dormitory Fire
The 2016 Adana student dormitory fire, or the Aladağ disaster, was a fire that took place in the Aladağ Assistance Association for Students of Education Age Secondary Education Girls' Dormitory () in the Sinanpaşa neighborhood of Aladağ, Adana, Turkey. Incident The incident took place around 19:30 in Adana's Aladağ district, in a mostly wooden student dormitory with 34 students. The incident killed 11 secondary school female students and 1 caregiver. It was reported that those who lost their lives in the fire disaster were taken to the Adana for identification, and it was notified that DNA samples will be taken from the families to identify some of the bodies. ''BirGün'' (''One Day'') is an Istanbul-based Turkish left-wing daily. The paper was founded in 2004 by a group of Turkish intellectuals. The most important point of the newspaper is that it is not owned by any parent company or conglomerate. Since its foundation, the newspaper had to face serious pressures from publishing trusts, mainly to affiliated with Doğan Media Group that owns the vast majority of the market. Whereas most of the newspapers in Turkey pay paper and publishing cost as installments, ''BirGün'' had to pay in cash. In order to afford the costs, the newspaper first launched a subscription campaign, then raised its price to 0.75 TL. The price was 1 TL in 2012 and 1,5 TL in Summer 2015 while also costs 40 kuruş (0,4 TL) on universities in Turkey. Şerafettin Can Atalay is a Turkish lawyer, activist, and politician. He served as a lawyer in many social cases in Turkey, such as the Soma mine disaster, Ermenek mine accident, 2016 Adana student dormitory fire, Çorlu train derailment, and freedom of thought cases of journalists and writers. He served as the lawyer of , which was established against the attempt to build a shopping mall in Taksim's Gezi Park. In 2022 he was convicted to 18 years in prison during the Gezi Park lawsuit. During the 2023 Turkish parliamentary elections he was elected as a member of parliament for the Hatay province for the Workers' Party of Turkey. Adana Golden Boll Film Festival (), known between 2016 and 2018 as International Adana Film Festival (), is a film festival in Adana, Turkey, that was held five times between 1969 and 1974 and every year since 2005. Kozan, Adana
Kozan, formerly Sis (), is a municipality and district of Adana Province, Turkey. Its area is 1,903 km2, and its population is 132,703 (2022).
