Can Atalay
Şerafettin Can Atalay is a Turkish lawyer, activist, and politician. He served as a lawyer in many social cases in Turkey, such as the Soma mine disaster, Ermenek mine accident, 2016 Adana student dormitory fire, Çorlu train derailment, and freedom of thought cases of journalists and writers. He served as the lawyer of , which was established against the attempt to build a shopping mall in Taksim's Gezi Park. In 2022 he was convicted to 18 years in prison during the Gezi Park lawsuit. During the 2023 Turkish parliamentary elections he was elected as a member of parliament for the Hatay province for the Workers' Party of Turkey. 2023 Turkish Parliamentary Elections
The 2023 Turkish parliamentary election is scheduled to take place on 18 June 2023, as part of the 2023 general election, alongside the presidential election on the same day. Voters from 87 electoral districts will elect 600 Members of Parliament to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for a five year term, forming the country's 28th Parliament. Ermenek Coal Mine
Ermenek coal mine, owned by a company formerly called Has Sekerler now Özşeker, is a coal mine in the Turkish town of Ermenek. On October 28, 2014, 18 miners were trapped underground. It was the second major accident at a Turkish mine in six months; the previous one was the Soma mine disaster in May 2014. Accident It is believed 18 miners were trapped about 300 meters underground by flooding caused by a broken pipe. In addition to those trapped, 20 workers have either escaped the mine or were rescued from it. Rescue workers are currently working to pump water out from three sections of the mine. On October 30, Energy Minister Taner Yıldız stated that this operation was being hampered by mud and damage within the mine. An official from the mine, which is privately owned, said the chances of the trapped miners making it to safety were slim unless they had been able to reach a safety gallery. The Imam's Army
''The Imam's Army'' (Turkish: ''İmamın Ordusu'') is a book by Turkish journalist Ahmet Şık on the life and work of Fethullah Gülen and his Gülen movement. Şık was detained in March 2011, before the book was published, and the draft book was seized by the government and banned, claiming it was an "illegal organizational document" of the secret organization Ergenekon. Gülen Movement
The Gülen movement ( tr, Gülen hareketi), referred to by its participants as Hizmet ("service") or Cemaat ("community") and since 2016 by the Government of Turkey as FETÖ ("Fethullahist Terrorist Organisation" or, more commonly, "Fethullah Terrorist Organisation"; tr, Fethullahçı Terör Örgütü), is an Islamist fraternal movement led by Fethullah Gülen, a Muslim preacher who has lived in the United States since 1999. NTV is a Turkish nationwide television news channel owned by Doğuş Media Group. It was partnered with MSNBC between May 2000 and 2014. Can Yücel (; August 21, 1926 – August 12, 1999) was a Turkish poet noted for his use of colloquial language. Biography Can Yücel was the son of a former Minister of National Education, Hasan Âli Yücel, who left his mark on the history of education in Turkey, and a grandchild of an Ottoman sea captain who perished with the frigate ''Ertuğrul''. He studied Latin and Ancient Greek at Ankara University and Cambridge. He later worked as a translator at several embassies and in the Turkish language section five years of the BBC in London. Aziz Nesin (; born Mehmet Nusret, 20 December 1915 – 6 July 1995) was a Turkish writer, humorist and the author of more than 100 books.
