2006 Speedway Grand Prix Of Slovenia
The 2006 Speedway Grand Prix of Slovenia was the first round of the 2006 Speedway Grand Prix season (the world championship). It took place on 22 April 2006 at the Matija Gubec Stadium in Krško, (Slovenia). It was the fifth time that the Speedway Grand Prix of Slovenia had been held. The Grand Prix was by the Danish rider Nicki Pedersen (his third career Grand Prix win). Matija Gubec Stadium
Matija Gubec Stadium () is a multi-purpose stadium in Krško, Slovenia. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of local club Krško Posavje. It has a capacity of 1,470 seats. During speedway competitions the standing area surrounding the track is opened for public and therefore the race can be viewed by more than 10,000 spectators. History The stadium was built in 1946 and has hosted motorcycle speedway competitions since 1957. It staged the final of the 1980 Speedway World Pairs Championship. When the stadium hosted the 2018 Speedway Grand Prix of Slovenia, the track was measured at 387.7 metres. Antonio Lindbäck
Antonio Lindbäck (born 5 May 1985 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden, who competed in the Speedway World Championship and was a member of the Swedish team who won the Speedway World Cup in 2004 and 2015. He earned 17 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Career Lindbäck made his international debut in 2004 with firstly a wild card ride in the Speedway Grand Prix series but he made a bigger impression in the Speedway World Cup riding for the Swedish team. He became the European Under-19 Champion in 2004 and Scandinavian Under-21 Champion in 2005. In October 2004, during the Speedway Grand Prix Qualification he won the GP Challenge, which ensured that he claimed a permanent slot for the 2005 Grand Prix. Jernej Kolenko
Jernej Kolenko (born November 30 1982) is a former Slovenian motorcycle speedway rider who rode in Speedway World Cup. Career Kolenko medalled six times at the Slovenian Individual Speedway Championship. Although he won 2 silver medals and 4 bronze medals he never became champion of Slovenia, being denied the gold medal twice by Matej Žagar. He represented Slovenia in the 2002 Speedway World Cup. He signed for King's Lynn Stars for the 2002 Elite League speedway season and reached the final of the 2002 Speedway Under-21 World Championship. Izak Šantej
Izak Šantej (born August 26, 1973 in Slovenia) is a Slovenian motorcycle speedway rider who rode in the Speedway Grand Prix series. He is a ten times silver medal winner at Slovenian championship. Career Šantej medalled 12 times at the Slovenian Individual Speedway Championship. Although he won 10 silver medals and 2 bronze medals he never became champion of Slovenia, being denied the gold medal 5 times by Matej Žagar and 5 times by Matej Ferjan. Piotr Protasiewicz
Piotr Protasiewicz (born 25 January 1975 in Zielona Góra, Poland) is a Polish international speedway rider. He is a four times World team champion and earned 24 international caps for the Poland national speedway team. Career Protasiewicz began his career riding for Falubaz Zielona Góra in 1991 where he would spend four seasons. He began to record some notable performances including reaching the finals of three Speedway Under-21 World Championship in 1993, 1995 and 1996. In the 1996 final he scored a perfect 15 point maximum to be crowned the World U21 champion. He rode for the Polish national team in the 1996 Speedway World Cup and in October 1997, during the Speedway Grand Prix Qualification he won the GP Challenge, which ensured that he claimed a permanent slot for the 1998 Grand Prix. Niels Kristian Iversen
Niels Kristian Trochmann Iversen (, born 20 June 1982 in Esbjerg, Denmark) is an international motorcycle speedway rider. He is a seven times national champion of Denmark and was part of the Danish teams that won the Speedway World Cup in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Early life Niels-Kristian Trochmann was born 20 June 1982 in Esbjerg, Denmark to Ann Marie and Flemming Iversen. Growing up with older brother Soren, Iversen decided he want to be a speedway rider. His local town Esbjerg had a track where Iversen began to learn his desired trade. Quickly moving up the ranks in Denmark, his first title came in 1994 at the 50cc Danish Individual Championship. Moving up to 80cc in 1997 saw him win his second title at 15 years old. In 1998 Iversen moved up to full size 500cc bikes. Matej Ferjan
Matej Ferjan (5 January 1977 – 22 May 2011) was a Slovenian motorcycle speedway rider. He earned 8 caps for the Slovenia national speedway team and 2 caps for the Hungary national speedway team. Career Ferjan was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He was a five-time Slovenian Individual Speedway Championship winner (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001) and a six-time Hungarian champion (2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009). In 1998, he won a third place in Individual U-21 World Championship. The same year he made his British leagues deeut with Belle Vue Aces. Jarosław "Jarek" Hampel (; born 17 April 1982 in Łódź, Poland) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Poland. He is a six times World Cup winner and earned 24 caps for the Poland national speedway team.
