Fintan Coogan Jnr
Fintan A. Coogan (born 2 June 1944) is an Irish former Fine Gael politician from Galway. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for five years, a senator for five years, and was twice Mayor of Galway. Early and personal life The son of Fintan Coogan Snr, a long-serving TD and councillor, Coogan was educated at St. Joseph's Secondary School in Galway and graduated from University College Galway with a BA degree and a H.Dip.Ed. A lecturer in behavioural sciences at the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, he has also served on the boards of Galway Airport and of the Great Southern Hotels Group. He is married with three daughters and one son. John Mulholland (politician)
John Mulholland (1946 – 12 October 2022) was an Irish politician who was the Mayor of Galway from 1986 to 1987 and again from 1996 to 1997. Life and career Mulholland was born in Dublin in 1946, the eldest of six children of Ned Mulholland of Kinnegad and Betty O'Donoghue of Ballingary, County Tipperary. The family moved to Galway in 1948. In 1968 he married Margaret Flynn of Letterfrack, and moved to London where he worked in a betting office and as a fingerprint officer at Scotland Yard. He returned to Galway to take charge of the family's betting shop. He and Margaret have children Alan, Lisa, Eddie and Aoife Mulholland. Mulholland expanded the business, and by the early 21st century owned ten betting shops. Influenced by Garret FitzGerald, Mulholland stood for Fine Gael and was elected with a large majority for the city's South Ward in 1985, becoming mayor the following year. Catherine Connolly (born 12 July 1957) is an Irish Independent politician who has served as the Leas-Cheann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann since July 2020. She has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Galway West constituency since 2016. Donal Lyons
Donal Lyons was the Mayor of Galway from 2001–02 and from 2014–15. Biography Lyons is a native of Castlebaldwin, County Sligo, but moved to Galway in the 1970s where he married Myra Mulveen of Shantalla, with whom he had Ciara and Aiblhe. A trade unionist, he joined the Progressive Democrats in 1986. He was co-opted to the Corporation in 1996 following the resignation of Liam Madden. In 1999 Lyons and his colleague, Paul Colleran, won two seats in the South Ward. Martin Quinn (mayor)
Martin Quinn (born 24 December 1949) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He was Mayor of Galway from 2000 to 2001. Quinn was born in Galway's College Road on Christmas Eve, 1949. His parents were Frank Quinn and Maureen Linnane, both of Ardrahan, who married in 1935. Frank was related to Ellen Quinn who was killed during the Irish War of Independence. He was the twelfth of nineteen children. Quinn served with the CIÉ from 1969, serving mainly the west of Ireland. Active since then in trade unions and politics, he was selected in 1998 as a candidate by Fianna Fáil for the next local elections. He was elected in June 1999 for Galway's West Ward. Derek Nolan (born October 1982) is a former Irish Labour Party politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Galway West constituency from 2011 to 2016.
