2003 Speedway World Cup
The 2003 Speedway World Cup (SWC) was the 3rd FIM Speedway World Cup season. The final took place on 9 August 2003 in Vojens, Denmark. The tournament was won by Sweden (62 pts) and they beat Australia (57 points), host team Denmark (53 pts) and Poland (49 pts), Great Britain (44 pts) in the Final. Speedway World Cup
The Speedway World Cup is a motorcycle speedway event for national teams held in different countries. The first edition of the competition in the current format was held in 2001 and replaced the old Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup which ran from 1960 until 2000. The competition was held annually until 2017 when it was replaced by the Speedway of Nations pairs event. The Speedway World Cup returned in 2023 and will be held every three years. Vojens Speedway Center
The Vojens Speedway Center is a Motorcycle speedway track located in Vojens, Denmark. The track has been part-owned since its opening by Denmark's first three time Speedway World Champion Ole Olsen. Track The Speedway Center is a long track which opened in September 1975 and has a spectator capacity of approximately 15,000. Since its opening it has hosted numerous Danish national and international meetings including hosting the Danish Championship in 1977, 1979 and 1981. World Championship meetings The Speedway Center hosted the Speedway World Final in 1988 and again in 1994, the final time the World Championship was held in the single meeting format before the advent of the Speedway Grand Prix series in 1995. Nicki Pedersen
Nicki Pedersen (born 2 April 1977) is a Danish motorcycle speedway rider. He is a three time world champion having won the World Championship in 2003, 2007 and 2008. He has also won the World Cup with Denmark in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Career Pedersen began speedway racing aged 11 at Danish club Fjelsted. He stayed at the club until a move to in 1998 to Holstebro, the same year that he made his British league debut with Newcastle Diamonds in the 1998 Premier League speedway season. He topped the League averages which began his journey towards the pinnacle of the sport. He started his Polish speedway career in 1999 with Polish Speedway First League club Start Gniezno and would go on to ride for ten different Polish sides. Elite League side Wolverhampton Wolves bought him for the 1999 season. He was at Wolverhampton for two years. Ryan Geoffrey Sullivan (born 20 January 1975, in Fitzroy, Victoria) is a former Australian international motorcycle speedway rider who has won the Australian Solo Championship, Australian Under-21 Speedway Championship, and Under-16 championships during his career. Sullivan achieved a career best third in the 2002 Speedway Grand Prix, winning two of the ten Grand Prix run during the year. Jason Lyons
Jason Rodney Lyons (born 15 June 1970 in Mildura, Victoria) is a former Australian international motorcycle speedway rider. Jason is the son of former rider Rod Lyons. Career history Lyons started his United Kingdom career in 1990, with the Glasgow Tigers in the National League alongside fellow Aussie Shane Bowes from Adelaide. He joined the Belle Vue Aces in 1992 where he stayed for twelve consecutive seasons and where he gained the nickname 'Mr. Belle Vue'. Lyons was a member of the Australian team that won the World Team Cup in 1999 and the team that won the World Cup in 2002. Todd Wiltshire (born 26 September 1968 in Bankstown, New South Wales) is an Australian former motorcycle speedway rider, who competed at the highest level of the sport, finishing a career best third in the 1990 Individual Speedway World Championship at the Odsal Stadium in Bradford, England. Jason Philip Crump (born 6 August 1975) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from Australia (UK born). He is a three-time Speedway World Champion, and a World Cup winner. In a 21-year career in Speedway, Crump finished with seven World Championship titles to his name (four individual, including the U/21 title, and three teams), making him one of the most successful Australian motorcycle racers of all time. David Ruud (born January 21, 1980) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden who won 2003 Speedway World Cup with Sweden and earned 6 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Career Ruud signed for Poole Pirates for the 2001 Elite League speedway season before riding for Arena Essex Hammers in 2003. Peter Karlsson (speedway Rider)
Peter Gunnar Karlsson (born 18 December 1969) is a Swedish former motorcycle speedway rider. He was twice Swedish champion and a three times World Cup winner. He earned 40 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Career Karlsson first rode for Wolverhampton Wolves in Britain during the 1990 season. He won the Swedish Pairs Championship twice with brother Mikael Max, in 1992 and 1996 and was the Swedish Individual Champion in 1989 and 1991. In October 2000, during the Speedway Grand Prix Qualification he won the GP Challenge, which ensured that he claimed a permanent slot for the 2001 Grand Prix. He is regarded as a legend at parent club Wolverhampton where he helped them win the 2009 Elite League title despite suffering with a broken collarbone two weeks prior to the play off final.
