The 2000–01 Georgian Cup (also known as the ''David Kipiani Cup'') was the fifty-seventh season overall and eleventh since independence of the Georgia (country), Georgian annual Association football, football tournament. FC Locomotive Tbilisi
FC Locomotive Tbilisi, commonly referred to as Lokomotivi or simply Loco, is a Georgian professional football club based Tbilisi. The club competes in the Erovnuli Liga 2, the second tier of Georgian football. During the existence of the USSR the club was a part of the Lokomotiv Voluntary Sports Society. The club has strong connections with the Georgian Railways. History Locomotive was founded on 14 August 1936 as a part of Lokomotiv sports society. The club won Georgian championship in 1937, which gave them the permission to participate in USSR Top League. Their debut season in the highest level of the Soviet football championship came in 1938, where the club took 24th place out of 26 and got relegated. However, the Tbilisi-based club managed to get another promotion during the following season and participated in 1940 Soviet Top League. But they were eventually disqualified from the tournament. FC Zestaponi
Football Club Zestaponi is a Georgian football club based in Zestaponi. They play their home games at David Abashidze Stadium. Zestaponi was founded on 18 June 2004 by the initiative of the shareholders of JSC Giorgi Nikoladze Zestaponi Ferro-Alloy Plant. At that time Zestaponi have their own club FC Metallurg Zestaponi. A new club was formed as Margveti Zestaponi joined Pirveli Liga and promoted in the first season. Margveti was a member of Umaglesi Liga and achieved their best result in 1995–96 by finishing runner-up. 2000–01 Pirveli Liga
2000–01 Pirveli Liga was the 12th season of the second-tier football in Georgia. History Following new regulations announced by the Football Federation, the number of team represented in this league sustained almost a four-time reduction. The format of the tournament also underwent significant changes. Twelve teams played 22 matches each and later, on the 2nd stage, formed Championship and Relegation groups based on the league standings. Milani was the only club among them to make a debut in the 2nd division this season. The season started on 12 September 2000 and ended on 22 May 2001 with a play-off game held on 27 May. Eventually, Guria and Metalurgi gained automatic promotion to the Umaglesi Liga followed by Samgurali who prevailed over Dila in the play-offs. The Boris Paitchadze Dinamo Arena ( ''Boris P’aich’adzis erovnuli st’adioni''), formerly known as Boris Paitchadze National Stadium, is a stadium in Tbilisi, Georgia, and the home stadium of FC Dinamo Tbilisi, Dinamo Tbilisi, Georgia national rugby union team and Georgia national football team. With a capacity of 54,202, the stadium is the largest in Georgia. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals " away from home" wins the tiebreaker. This is sometimes expressed by saying that away goals "count double" in the event of a tie, though in practice the team with more away goals is simply recorded as the victor, rather than having additional or 'double' goals added to their total. FC Dinamo Zugdidi is a defunct Georgian football club based in Zugdidi. In 2023, after being accused of match-fixing and expelled from the Erovnuli Liga 2 the previous season, the club took part in Liga 4 and stopped functioning following their relegation to Regionuli Liga.
