Romano Scarpa
Romano Scarpa (27 September 1927 – 23 April 2005) was one of the most famous Italian creators of Disney comics. Biography Growing up in Venice he developed a particular love for American cartoons and Disney comics, that, at the time, were published in the big format of the Topolino giornale which was then printing now classic Floyd Gottfredson's stories. In the 1940s he opened an Animation Studio in Venice in which he produced his first works: some commercials, a short titled ''E poi venne il diluvio'' and another one titled ''La piccola fiammiferaia'' (1953, based on Hans Christian Andersen's '' The Little Match Girl''), distributed in Italy together with Robert Aldrich's '' Attack!'' (1956). Right after that he stopped working in animation for a while and dedicated wholly to creating Disney comics. ''Topolino'' (from the Italian language, Italian name for Mickey Mouse) is an Italian digest-sized comic series featuring Disney comics. The series has had a long running history, first appearing in 1932 as a comics magazine. Since 2013, it has been published by Panini Comics. Topolino ''giornale'' (1932–1949) In 1932 the editor Mario Nerbini decided to open a new weekly newspaper for kids, containing illustrated tales with Mickey Mouse. The first issue of ''Topolino'' was published on December 31, 1932: it contained Mickey's first Italian story drawn by Giove Toppi. In this story, Mickey Mouse was chased by an elephant. Peter van Straaten (25 March 1935 – 8 December 2016) was a Dutch cartoonist and comics artist. He is best known for his political cartoons as well as his satirical observations of everyday people. He also had a newspaper comic strip '' Vader & Zoon'', which ran in ''Het Parool'' for almost two decades. Johannes Andries "Jan" Kruis (; 8 June 1933 – 19 January 2017) was a Dutch comics artist best known for the family strip '' Jack, Jacky and the Juniors'' (''Jan, Jans en de Kinderen''). Biography He began creating comics as a child. Later he worked for the Dutch comics pioneer Marten Toonder. Claudio Castellini (born 3 March 1966) is an Italian comic book artist. Biography Castellini's first published work was the March 1989 episode of the Italian horror series ''Dylan Dog'', published by Sergio Bonelli Editore. This was followed by a second ''Dylan Dog'' story in September 1990. In 1991 Castellini collaborated in the graphic elaboration of science fiction series ''Nathan Never'', and continued drawing covers for the series until issue #59. His first work for Marvel Comics was ''Silver Surfer: Dangerous Artifacts'', a Silver Surfer graphic novel written by Ron Marz, published in June 1996.
