''Topolino'' (from the Italian language, Italian name for Mickey Mouse) is an Italian digest-sized comic series featuring Disney comics. The series has had a long running history, first appearing in 1932 as a comics magazine. Since 2013, it has been published by Panini Comics. Topolino ''giornale'' (1932–1949) In 1932 the editor Mario Nerbini decided to open a new weekly newspaper for kids, containing illustrated tales with Mickey Mouse. The first issue of ''Topolino'' was published on December 31, 1932: it contained Mickey's first Italian story drawn by Giove Toppi. In this story, Mickey Mouse was chased by an elephant. However, Nerbini had not correctly secured the publication rights, so when Emmanuel (Disney's representative in Italy) protested, Nerbini changed the title of the comic book with issue #3 into ''Topo Lino'' (Mouse Lino), replacing Mickey Mouse with ''Topo Lino'', another mouse. Rebo is an Italian comics character, created for the story ''Saturno contro la Terra'' (''Saturn against the Earth'') by Cesare Zavattini (plot), Federico Pedrocchi (script) and Giovanni Scolari (art) in 1936. He is the dictator of Saturn and wants to conquer Earth, but his plans are foiled by Dr. Marcus and Ciro. Mickey Mouse is an American cartoon character co-created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Giove Toppi (2 August 1888 – 21 July 1942) was an Italian cartoonist and the first to draw Mickey Mouse comics in Italy. Biography Toppi was born in Ancona, Italy and moved to Florence in the 1920s. There, he began what would become a long collaboration with the publisher Nerbini, initially as a cartoonist for the satirical weekly ''Il 420'' and as an illustrator for their novels. Toppi designed the headline logo and contributed comics to the ''Topolino'', a weekly children's magazine themed on the Disney character Mickey Mouse. Pier Lorenzo De Vita (21 November 1909 – 7 April 1990) was an Italian comic book artist. Life and career Born in Castiglione Olona, De Vita made his professional debut in 1934 in the magazine ''Jumbo''.
