1990 Umaglesi Liga
The 1990 Umaglesi Liga was the first and inaugural season of top-tier football in Georgia. It began on 30 March and ended on 12 November 1990. Georgia was still a part of the Soviet Union, but the Georgian clubs were withdrawn from the Soviet league system and formed the Georgian league system. Iberia Tbilisi won the championship. The league was formed by 18 clubs based on their performance the previous year across four tiers: * Soviet Top League: Iberia, Guria; * Soviet First League: Torpedo, Batumi and Tskhumi (the latter was created after Dinamo Sokhumi split into two clubs); * Soviet Second League: Savanardo, Kolkheti Poti, Kolkheti Khobi, Gorda, Dila, Mertskhali, Shevardeni; * Georgian Championship: Samgurali, Odishi, Amirani, Mziuri, Iveria, Liakhvi. Erovnuli Liga
The Erovnuli Liga ( ka, ეროვნული ლიგა; ) is the top Division (sport), division of professional top tier Association football, football in Georgia (Country), Georgia. Since 1990, it has been organized by the Professional Football League of Georgia and Georgian Football Federation. From 1927 to 1989, the competition was held as a regional tournament within the Soviet Union. From 2017, the Erovnuli Liga switched to a spring-autumn system, with only 10 clubs in the top flight. Soviet First League
The Soviet First League in football () was the second highest division of Soviet football,Evgeni Kazakov. The Soviet First Football League (Первая лига СССР по футболу)''. While the second tier competitions in football among "teams of masters" (an official term for the Soviet professional clubs) existed since 1936, the First League has been officially formed in 1971 out of the Class A First Group. FC Zugdidi
FC Dinamo Zugdidi is a defunct Georgian football club based in Zugdidi. In 2023, after being accused of match-fixing and expelled from the Erovnuli Liga 2 the previous season, the club took part in Liga 4 and stopped functioning following their relegation to Regionuli Liga. History The club was founded in 1918 as Odishi Zugdidi. In 1990, FC Odishi Zugdidi were promoted for the first time to the Umaglesi Liga, the top division of Georgian football. In the 1998–99 season they finished 15th and were relegated to the Pirveli Liga. Ahead of the 2001–02 season the club changed its name to FC Lazika Zugdidi and the following season the club won promotion back to the Umaglesi Liga. Ahead of the 2003–04 season, FC Lazika Zugdidi merged with FC Spartaki Tbilisi, a Pirveli Liga club. During the winter break, FC Spartak-Lazika Zugdidi relocated to Tbilisi and renamed themselves to FC Spartaki Tbilisi. FC Samgurali ''( Georgian'': საფეხბურთო კლუბი სამგურალი) is a Georgian association football club from Tskaltubo, which takes part in the Erovnuli Liga, the first tier of Georgian football. They have been runners-up of the Georgian Cup three times. FC Iveria ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი ივერია) is a Georgian association football club based in Khashuri which competes in Liga 4, the fourth division of Georgian football after winning the Regional league B in 2024. Iveria played in the Umaglesi Liga in the 1990s until relegation in 1997. The club then played between Pirveli Liga and Regionuli Liga. FC Mziuri Gali
FC Mziuri ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი მზიური) was a Georgian football club based in the town of Gali (town), Gali, Abkhazia, Georgia (country), Georgia. During the Soviet Union, Soviet period, Mziuri won both the Georgian League and Supercup. Later in the early 1990s, they took part in first three seasons of the top Umaglesi Liga, national league before suspending their activities due to political tensions in the region which turned into a full-fledged war. History Mziuri were a member of the Georgian republican championship (tier 4) for years. The late 1970s are considered their golden period. FC Kolkheti Khobi
FC Kolkheti Khobi ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი კოლხეთი ხობი) is a Georgian association football club based in the town of Khobi. Following the 2024 season they were relegated to Liga 3, the third tier of Georgian football. The club has spent four seasons in the top division. History Established in 1936, Kolkheti played many years in Georgian championship during the Soviet Union. In 1988 the club won the title and advanced to the Soviet Second league where the next year they finished in the 5th place. After 1990, when Umaglesi Liga was formed, Kolkheti participated in initial three seasons. Later they spent several years in the second and third divisions. FC Samtredia
FC Samtredia ( ka, სკ სამტრედია), commonly known as Samtredia, is a Georgian professional football club based in the city of Samtredia. Following the 2024 season, the club was relegated to Erovnuli Liga 2, the 2nd tier of Georgian football. Their home ground is the Erosi Manjgaladze Stadium. In 2016, Samtredia won the league and the Super Cup. Soviet Second League
The Soviet Second League (, Soviet football championship (Second League)) was the third highest division of Soviet Union, Soviet football (soccer), football, below the Soviet First League. The league was formed in 1971 in place of the Class A Second Group of the Soviet football championship just a year after the division was downgraded to the third tier. Previously, the third-tier competition predecessor Class B was liquidated completely. The Second League remained in force until dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
