1990 Swedish Speedway Season
The 1990 Swedish speedway season was the 1990 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1990 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held in Stockholm on 22 September. Tony Rickardsson won the Swedish Championship for the first time. U21 Championship Joakim Karlsson won the U21 championship. Team Team Championship Indianerna won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the first time. The Indianerna team included Henrik Gustafsson, Christer Rohlén, Lars Gunnestad, Simon Wigg and Stefan Dannö. Eskilstuna and Karlstad merged for the 1990 season. Skepparna won the first division, while Masarna and Korparna won the second division north and south respectively. The 1989 Swedish speedway season was the 1989 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1989 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held at the Smedstadion in Eskilstuna on 23 September. Peter Karlsson won the Swedish Championship. U21 Championship Henrik Gustafsson won the U21 championship for the fourth consecutive year. Team Team Championship Stockholm United, (the merged Getingarna and Gamarna club) won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship. The Stockholm United team included Per Jonsson, Jimmy Nilsen, Erik Stenlund and Tony Rickardsson. Smederna won the first division, while Valsarna and Kaparna won the second division north and south respectively. Masarna
Masarna are a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based in Avesta (locality), Avesta, Sweden. The club was founded in 1937 as the ''Folkare Motorklubb'' but their first track was not built until 1948. Masarna joined the Swedish second division in 1958 and remained there until gaining promotion to the Elitserien (speedway), Elitserien in 1999. They then won their first Elitserien championship in 2000. Karlstad Speedway
Karlstad Speedway is a motorcycle speedway club from Karlstad in Sweden. Stadium The city's stadium is the Kalvholmen Motorstadion, a 297-metre track, which is located in the southern Lamberget region of Karlstad. History Solkatterna The city's first speedway club was Solkatterna (the Sun Cats) which was founded in 1967 and first raced in the Swedish Speedway Team Championship during the 1967 Swedish speedway season in division 3 west. After a decade of racing in the third tier of Swedish speedway, the team's first honours came during the 1976 Swedish speedway season when they won the third division south. However, they failed to gain promotion after being beaten in the promotion play off, despite the best efforts of Lars Ericsson. A second opportunity arose in 1979, when the team won the division again but this time won the play off. Simon Wigg
Simon Antony Wigg (15 October 1960 – 15 November 2000) was an English speedway, grasstrack and longtrack rider who won five World Long Track Championships and finished runner-up in the Speedway World Championship in 1989.Rogers, G.(2005). Lars Gunnestad
Lars Gunnestad (born 18 February 1971 in Drammen, Norway) is a former Norwegian international motorcycle speedway rider. He won the Individual Speedway Norwegian Championship a record ten times. His son, Lars Daniel, is speedway rider also. Lars Daniel finished fifth in the 2009 Norwegian Championship. Career summary Gunnestad first came to prominence in 1988 when he won his first Norwegian title at the age of 17. His first British club was Sheffield in 1991, who competed in the British League Division Two. Gunnestad missed the British speedway season in 1992, but returned in 1993 when he was signed by British League team the Poole Pirates with whom he would spend this rest of his British career. Gunnestad became a popular rider at Poole and eventually received a testimonial meeting there in 2001. He appeared in five Speedway Grand Prix meetings as a wild card. Elitserien (literally, "The Elite Series") ( sv, Elitserien i speedway) is the highest league in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises the top 7 Swedish speedway teams. The first season began in 1982. The Swedish Speedway Team Championship is the team championship of speedway in Sweden. Season by season History The Championship was introduced in 1950. In 1982 the Championship was renamed with a new league called the Elitserien being introduced. previously the highest league had been known as the Allsvenskan but since 1982 it has been the second tier of Swedish speedway.
