1989 Swedish Speedway Season
The 1989 Swedish speedway season was the 1989 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1989 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held at the Smedstadion in Eskilstuna on 23 September. Peter Karlsson won the Swedish Championship. U21 Championship Henrik Gustafsson won the U21 championship for the fourth consecutive year. Team Team Championship Stockholm United, (the merged Getingarna and Gamarna club) won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship. The Stockholm United team included Per Jonsson, Jimmy Nilsen, Erik Stenlund and Tony Rickardsson. Smederna won the first division, while Valsarna and Kaparna won the second division north and south respectively. The 1988 Swedish speedway season was the 1988 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1988 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held at the Kumla Motorstadion in Kumla on 27 August. Per Jonsson won the Swedish Championship for the third consecutive year. U21 Championship Henrik Gustafsson won the U21 championship for the third consecutive year. Team Team Championship Bysarna won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the fourth time. The Bysarna team included Per Jonsson, Tony Olsson, Dennis Löfqvist and Brian Karger. Getingarna and Gamarna merged to become became Stockholm United and Tuna Rebels changed their name to Eskilstuna. Rospiggarna won the first division, while Solkatterna and Filbyterna won the second division north and south respectively. Smederna
Smederna is a motorcycle speedway club based in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The club competes in the highest speedway league in Sweden called the Elitserien and race its home matches at Smedstadion outside Eskilstuna. Ikaros Smederna was formerly known as just Smederna but after making a sponsorship deal with company Ikaros in the fall of 2008 the club changed its name. However, this did not have the wanted effect on the club economy and in July 2009 the club went bankrupt and withdrew from Elitserien to restart in Division 1. Smederna has won six Swedish Speedway Team Championships, in 1973, 1977, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022, and were the home club of three individual world champions, Billy Hamill, Mark Loram and Nicki Pedersen. Jimmy Nilsen
Jimmy Nilsen (born 16 November 1966) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. Career Jimmy Nilsen was Swedish Champion in 1996 after finishing 3rd in 1994. Nilsen also rode in five World Finals as well as representing Sweden in Test Matches, World Pairs (best finish 2nd in 1989 with Per Jonsson) and World Team Cup (finishing 2nd in 1991, 1992 and 1998). Elitserien (literally, "The Elite Series") ( sv, Elitserien i speedway) is the highest league in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises the top 7 Swedish speedway teams. The first season began in 1982. The Swedish Speedway Team Championship is the team championship of speedway in Sweden. Season by season History The Championship was introduced in 1950. In 1982 the Championship was renamed with a new league called the Elitserien being introduced. previously the highest league had been known as the Allsvenskan but since 1982 it has been the second tier of Swedish speedway. Between 1986 and 1999 the team that finished top of the league were declared champions because there was no play off. Henrik Gustafsson
Henrik Anders (Henka) Gustafsson (born 14 August 1970 in Sköllersta, Sweden) is an international Motorcycle speedway rider who won the 1993 World Pairs Championship with Tony Rickardsson and the Speedway World Team Cup with Sweden in 1994 and 2000. Early in his career Gustafsson was known as much for his long, curly blonde hair as he was his riding, though his riding soon outshone his locks. Career Sweden Henrik Gustafsson, who has ridden for Indianerna in the Swedish Elite League since 1986, is a two time Swedish Speedway Champion, winning the title in 1995 and 2000.
