1899–1900 FC Basel Season
The FC Basel 1899–1900 season was their seventh season since the club's foundation on 15 November 1893. In this season they did not compete for the Swiss championship. The club's chairman was Charlie Volderauer, who was chairman between 1896 and 1900. He stood down at the AGM and Ernst-Alfred Thalmann was elected as the new club chairman. FC Basel played their home games in the Landhof, in the Quarter Kleinbasel. Overview The first national championship in Switzerland took place in 1897–98 Swiss Serie A, 1897–98. This championship is considered as unofficial because it was not organized by the Swiss Football Association (SFA; founded in 1895). FC Basel did not participate in this first championship. Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. Jules Fingerlin
Jules Fingerlin (30 September 1881 – 28 December 1929) was a Swiss footballer who played either as goalkeeper or as defender. Fingerlin joined Basel's first team for their 1899–1900 season. During that season Basel did not compete in the Swiss championship, played only friendly games. Fingerlin played in 15 games that season, the first 14 as goalkeeper and the last as defender, a position change which was a normal thing at this period in time. Karl Schneider was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Otto Reber (date of birth unknown) was a Switzerland, Swiss football (soccer), footballer who played as Midfielder (football), midfielder in the late 1890s. Edmond Racle
Edmond Racle (born 30 September 1880) was a Swiss footballer who played as striker and as midfielder during the late 1890s and the early 1900s. Football career FC Basel was founded on 15 November 1893 and Racle joined the club about five years later, during their 1898–99 season. During his first season with the club Racle did not play in any first team games. Racle played his first game for the club in the first game of the following season. Rudolf Gossweiler
Rudolf Gossweiler (born 8 January 1882) was a Swiss footballer who played as striker or as midfielder during the late 1890s and early 1900s. Football career Gossweiler joined Basel's first team for their 1899–1900 season. During this season FCB did not play domestic league football, but they played 16 friendly matches. Gossweiler played his first game for the club in the home game on 1 April 1900 as Basel won 6–0 against newly formed FC Kleinbasel. In their 1900–01 season Basel contested the 1900–01 Swiss Serie A, being assigned to the East group. Gossweiler made his domestic league debut for the club in the away game on 10 March 1901 against FC Fortuna Basel. Jules Gérard (date of birth unknown) was a French footballer who played in the early 1900s mainly as midfielder. Football career Gérard joined FC Basel's first team during their 1899–1900 season. Basel did not compete in the domestic championship this season. Gérard played his first friendly game for the club in the away game on 6 May 1900 as Basel were defeated 1–5 by FC Concordia Zürich. Football career Schneider joined the Basel first team during their 1896–97 season, two years before the Swiss Serie A was founded. In his first season he played seven test games. Emanuel Schiess
Dr Georg Emanuel Schiess (* 6 July 1875 in Basel; † 13 May 1948 in Basel) was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel. He played mainly as forward, but also as midfielder. Football career Schiess joined Basel a few weeks after the club's foundation during their 1893–94 season. Team mate Charles Volderauer, as businessman, had good connections and used them from the very beginning. As early as June 1894, Volderauer organised the journey to visit Strassburger FV. Schiess travelled with the team by train to Strasbourg and played their first match against a foreign team, which ended with a 0–8 defeat. In the following season, Schiess scored his first goal for his club in the Stadion Schützenmatte on 2 December 1894. Siegfried Pfeiffer
Dr Siegfried Pfeiffer (19 October 188315 February 1959) was a Swiss international footballer. He played mainly as striker, but also as midfielder. Between the years 1899 und 1908 Pfeiffer played a total of 72 games for FC Basel scoring a total of 28 goals. He was also member of the FC Basel board of directors. He presided the club's board during the 1907–08 season. He also played for the Swiss national team.
