Jules Fingerlin
Jules Fingerlin (30 September 1881 – 28 December 1929) was a Swiss footballer who played either as goalkeeper or as defender. Fingerlin joined Basel's first team for their 1899–1900 season. During that season Basel did not compete in the Swiss championship, played only friendly games. Fingerlin played in 15 games that season, the first 14 as goalkeeper and the last as defender, a position change which was a normal thing at this period in time. He played his debut match on 8 October 1899 in the home game in the Landhof. Basel were defeated 0–4 by FC Fortuna Zürich. The goalkeeper (sometimes written as goal-keeper, abbreviated as GK, keeper, keeps, or goalie) is a association football positions, position in association football. Landhof
The Landhof was a sports stadium in the district Basel-Wettstein in Kleinbasel, Basel. It was the former and first home stadium of FC Basel. It is mentioned for the first time in a chronicle in the second half of the 18th century as a ''nice summer house with beautiful property''. The best known owner of the manor was , a member of the Merian family. He was Mayor of Basel and Landammann of Switzerland (highest office at the time). In 1892 the granddaughter of Merian-Iselin sold the Landhof to a certain Katharina Ehrler-Wittich. As the Football Club Basel 1893 was founded in 1893 and look for a ground to play, she made the Landhof available free of charge as a playing surface. 1900–01 FC Basel Season
The FC Basel 1900–01 season was their eighth season since the club's foundation on 15 November 1893. The club's new chairman was Ernst-Alfred Thalmann, who took over the presidency from Charlie Volderauer at the AGM. He was the fourth chairman in the club's history. FC Basel played their home games in the Landhof in the Quarter Kleinbasel. Overview The first national championship in Switzerland took place in 1897–98. This championship is considered as unofficial because it was not organized by the Swiss Football Association (SFA; founded in 1895). FC Basel did not participate in this first championship. The 1900–01 Swiss Serie A season was the 1900–01 season of the Swiss national football league championship. Overview The 1900–01 Swiss Serie A was divided into two groups, an east and a west group. The east group had three teams from Zürich, Grasshopper Club Zürich, FC Zürich, Fire Flies Zürich and three teams from Basel, FC Basel, Old Boys and Fortuna Basel. There were four teams in the west group, FC La Chaux-de-Fonds, Servette Genf, FC Neuchâtel and FC Bern. From the east group the Grasshoppers qualified themselves for the finals against FC Bern who were the winners of the east group. The final was played on 31 March 1901 in Aarau, but a player from the Grasshopper Club was not-qualified and the result was voided and replayed.
