Älvkarleby
Älvkarleby () is a locality situated in Älvkarleby Municipality, Uppsala County, Sweden with 1,647 inhabitants in 2010. It is not the seat of the municipality, a function held by Skutskär 7 km to the north. People from Älvkarleby One of Sweden's most famous authors, Stig Dagerman was born in Älvkarleby on 5 October 1923 and spent his youth there. At the centenary of his birth in 2023, a park in Älvkarleby was named after Stig Dagerman and a statue was placed there. Finnish ice hockey player Jesse Puljujarvi, currently playing for the Florida Panthers was also born in Älvkarleby. Älvkarleby Municipality
Älvkarleby Municipality () is a municipality in Uppsala County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Skutskär. The municipality is one of few in the country which has not been amalgamated since it was created out of a parish when the first local government acts of Sweden were implemented in 1863. Skutskär
Skutskär is a bimunicipal locality and the seat of Älvkarleby Municipality in Uppsala County, Sweden with 6,075 inhabitants in 2010. According to the census of 2000 6,003 people lived in Skutskär, most of them in Älvkarleby Municipality, but a minor part in Gävle Municipality in Gävleborg County. History Originally Skutskär was the area south and south-east from the industries located there. The first record of Skutskär (Ship Reef) is done 1741 and describes an anchoring point for the industries of Harnäs. The industries in question are iron smelting furnaces in Harnäs (shut down in the 1910s) and later the saw mill and wood pulp mill Skutskärsverken owned by Stora Enso which is still one of the largest in the world. Älgen Stolta
Älgen Stolta (in Swedish, "Älgen" means "the moose" and "Stolta" means "proud") was a moose that became known for participating in a harness racing, trot racing event in Falun, Sweden, in 1907. History In the early 1900s, a moose cow (adult female) died, leaving her year-old calf behind. Different sources claim the cow was killed by a passing train, others that it drowned, but they agree it happened near the Dalälven, Dalälven river close to Älvkarleby in Uppland. Its live female calf was taken to Johan Blad, the foreman at Älvkarleö's railway park. Blad knew a Lineman (technician), lineman called Anders Gustav Jansson who lived in Älvkarleby and had a reputation for animal husbandry, so he asked for his help with the moose which they named Stolta. Stig Dagerman
Stig Halvard Dagerman (5 October 1923 – 4 November 1954) was a Swedish author and journalist prominent in the aftermath of World War II. Biography Stig Dagerman was born Stig Halvard Andersson in Älvkarleby, Uppsala County. He later took his father's surname Jansson and then changed his name to Stig Dagerman in his teens. In the course of five years, 1945–49, he enjoyed success with four novels, a collection of short stories, a book about postwar Germany, five plays, hundreds of poems and satirical verses, several essays of note and a large amount of journalism. Jesse Puljujärvi (; born 7 May 1998) is a Finnish professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing with Genève-Servette HC of Switzerland's National League (NL). Once rated as a top prospect, Puljujärvi was drafted fourth overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2016 NHL entry draft. Puljujärvi played his junior years in Tornio and Oulu. He became a professional in 2014 after signing a contract with the Oulun Kärpät of the SM-liiga.
