Zaliznianske
Zaliznianske ( uk, Залізнянське) is a village located in Bakhmut Raion of Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. It is located north of Bakhmut. According to the 2001 Ukrainian census, 2 people lived in the village, both of whom spoke Ukrainian. History Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner Group, claimed his forces had captured the village for Russia in March 2023 during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On 16 July 2023, it was reported that Ukrainian forces had liberated the village during the broader 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive. 2023 Ukrainian Counteroffensive
In early June 2023, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine launched a counteroffensive against Russian forces occupying its territory with a long-term goal of breaching the frontlines. Efforts were made in many directions, primarily in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, among others. Planning for a major Ukrainian counteroffensive had begun as early as February 2023, with the original intention being to launch it in the spring. However, various factors, including weather and late weapon deliveries to Ukraine, delayed it to summer, as it had not been deemed safe to progress. The Wagner Group (russian: Группа Вагнера, Gruppa Vagnera), also known as PMC Wagner ( «Вагнер», ChVK «Vagner»; ), is a Russian paramilitary organization. It is variously described as a private military company (PMC), a network of mercenaries, or a ''de facto'' private army of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Yevgeny Viktorovich Prigozhin (russian: link=no, Евгений Викторович Пригожин; born 1 June 1961) is a Russian oligarch and close confidant of Russian president Vladimir Putin.
