R104 (South Africa)
The R104 is a regional route in South Africa that is the designation for some of the old sections of roads that were previously the N4, prior to upgrading. It connects Pretoria with Middelburg in Mpumalanga via Bronkhorstspruit and Witbank. It also connects Pretoria with Rustenburg in the North West province via Hartbeespoort and Mooinooi. The R104 is also made up of a road in Nelspruit (Mbombela) which was previously part of the N4 national route. As the N4 bypasses the central part of the city to the north on a newer highway (opened on 13 June 2010), the old short road through Nelspruit central (Samora Machel Drive) is now designated as the R104. Middelburg, Mpumalanga
Middelburg is a large farming and industrial town in the South African province of Mpumalanga. History It was initially established as a halfway station between Lydenburg and Pretoria by the Republic of Lydenburg in 1860. That republic would merge with the South African Republic (ZAR) soon afterwards. The proposed town was established on two farms, ''Klipfontein'' and ''Keerom'' but when the Dutch Reformed Church established a church next door on the farm ''Sterkfontein'', the town would be moved there. It was established as Nasareth, in 1864 by the Voortrekkers on the banks of the Klein Olifants River. It was changed in 1872 to Middelburg to mark its location between the Transvaal capital Pretoria, and the gold mining town of Lydenburg. The Dutch Reformed church was built in 1890. Maputo Corridor
The Maputo Corridor is a major trade corridor which connects the Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa with Maputo, which is a port and the capital of Mozambique. The corridor comprises roads - including the N4 toll road (from Pretoria to Komatipoort) - and railways, ports, and border facilities at Komatipoort, which connect the industrial areas around Gauteng, and mines and agricultural districts to the east, with ports on the Mozambique coast. Maputo and Matola are both deepwater ports. Transport organisations and border control agencies are cooperating to improve transport and lower barriers to trade. Mamelodi
Mamelodi, part of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, is a township set up by the then apartheid government northeast of Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa. Etymology "Mamelodi" is the name derived from the Sepedi word with the prefix being "ma" meaning mother, and the suffix "melodi" meaning melodies. Its meaning can be translated to mean ''Mother of Melodies''. History The township was established when 16 houses were built on the farm Vlakfontein in June 1953 and later the name changed to Mamelodi. The Group Areas Act designated Mamelodi as a blacks-only area, though this became moot with the fall of Apartheid in 1994. In the 1960s black citizens were forcefully removed from the suburb of Lady Selbourne in Pretoria to Mamelodi, Ga-Rankuwa and Atteridgeville. The R513 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Hartbeespoort with Bronkhorstspruit via Akasia, Pretoria North and Cullinan. Route It is an east-west route. Its western origin is a junction with the R511 approximately 3 km north of Hartbeespoort (8 km south-east of Brits) in the North West. From there it heads east, crossing the border into Gauteng and entering the north-western part of the city of Pretoria in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality. The R25 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Johannesburg with Groblersdal via Kempton Park, Bapsfontein and Bronkhorstspruit. Route The R25 begins in the suburb of Saxonwold, just north of the Johannesburg Zoo, at an intersection with Jan Smuts Avenue, Johannesburg's M27 Road. The R545 is a Regional Route in Mpumalanga, South Africa that connects Balmoral with Bethal via Ogies and Kriel. Route Its northern terminus is the R104 at Balmoral in Mpumalanga. It is initially co-signed with the R104 and starts by going southwards from Balmoral to cross the N4. Just after the N4 interchange, the R104 becomes the road eastwards to Witbank and the R545 remains the road southwards. It runs south-south-east, crossing the N12 to reach Ogies. At Ogies, it meets the R555 at a staggered junction, before leaving the town to the south-east. It passes just south of Kriel where it meets the R547 at a staggered junction. The R555 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Springs with Ohrigstad via Delmas, Ogies, Witbank, Middelburg, Stoffberg and Burgersfort. Route The R555 begins in Springs, Gauteng, at an intersection with the R29 Road north of the city centre. It goes north-east as Welgedacht Road and after 8 kilometres, it becomes the road eastwards by way of a right turn. It heads east-north-east into Mpumalanga, initially paralleling the N12 Highway.
