Suceava County () is a county ('' ro, județ'') of Romania. Most of its territory lies in the southern part of the historical region of Bukovina, while the remainder forms part of Western Moldavia proper. Bălcăuți ( uk, Белкеуць; also Балківці) is a commune located in Suceava County, Romania. It is composed of three villages: Bălcăuți, Gropeni and Negostina. At the 2011 census, 70.3% of inhabitants were Ukrainians and 29.6% Romanians. At the 2002 census, 74.4% were Eastern Orthodox, 6.9% stated they belonged to another religion, 6.3% were Seventh-day Adventist, 6.1% Greek-Catholic and 4.5% Christian Evangelical. Sas Of Moldavia
Sas was, according to the Slavo-Romanian chronicles, the second ''voivode'' of Moldavia (''c.'' 1353/1360 – ''c.'' 1357/1364). He followed his father Dragoş who had been sent to Moldavia as a representative of king Louis I of Hungary to establish a line of defense against the Golden Horde. All chronicles show that he reigned four years. According to the sequence of the ''voivode''s listed in the Slavo-Romanian chronicles, he was followed by Bogdan (who would become the first independent ruler of Moldavia), but several historians (''e.g.'', Alexandru Dimitrie Xenopol, Ştefan Pascu) consider Balc as his successor.
