Lemelson Foundation
The Lemelson Foundation is an American 501(c)(3) private foundation. It was started in 1993 by Jerome H. Lemelson and his wife Dorothy. Origins Jerome H. Lemelson based the foundation on his personal beliefs about the role of invention and inventors to the US economy. He believed that invention and innovation were keys to American economic success and dynamism. As a young inventor Lemelson conceived of the idea of a foundation that would support and celebrate independent inventors. A 501(c) organization is a nonprofit organization in the Law of the United States#Federal law, federal law of the United States according to Internal Revenue Code (26 U.S.C. § 501(c)) and is one of over 29 types of nonprofit organizations exempt from some Taxation in the United States, federal Income tax in the United States, income taxes. KickStart International is a nonprofit social enterprise headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.
