Left Is Change
Left is Change (''Sinistra è Cambiamento'', SèC) was a social-democratic faction within the Democratic Party (PD), a political party in Italy. Most of its members hailed from the Democrats of the Left (DS). The faction was formed, mainly by splinters of Remake Italy and Reformist Area, in June 2015. At its foundation, the faction counted around 70 MPs, notably including Maurizio Martina (minister of Agriculture in Renzi Cabinet), Cesare Damiano, Anna Finocchiaro, Matteo Mauri, Enzo Amendola, Paola De Micheli and Luciano Pizzetti. Differently from other left-wing factions, notably Reformist Area, SèC wanted to cooperate with Matteo Renzi, PD leader and Prime Minister. Maurizio Martina
Maurizio Martina (born 9 September 1978) is an Italian politician and member of the Chamber of Deputies, who served as secretary of the Democratic Party (PD) from March to November 2018, being appointed after the 2018 Italian general election. He served as Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies since 22 February 2014, in the governments of Matteo Renzi and Paolo Gentiloni. On 7 May 2017, he was elected Deputy Secretary of the Democratic Party. Martina resigned as Agriculture Minister and took over as acting secretary of the PD after Matteo Renzi resigned following a poor election showing in 2018. Anna Finocchiaro
Anna Finocchiaro Fidelbo (; born 31 March 1955) is an Italian politician. She was the Democratic Party's leader in the Senate from 2007 to 2013. She served as Minister for Equal Opportunities in the cabinet of Romano Prodi from 1996 to 1998. Biography Born in Modica, Finocchiaro graduated in law in 1978, and she worked for the Banca d'Italia's branch in Savona before becoming a magistrate in Leonforte in 1982. Andrea Orlando
Andrea Orlando (born 8 February 1969) is an Italian politician who served as minister of labour and social policies from 2021 to 2022 in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Mario Draghi. From 2013 to 2018 he served as minister of the environment under Enrico Letta and as minister of justice under Matteo Renzi and Paolo Gentiloni from 2014 to 2018. 2017 Democratic Party (Italy) Leadership Election
The 2017 Democratic Party leadership election was an open primary election held on 30 April 2017. The three candidates were Matteo Renzi, former Prime Minister and party secretary until February 2017, Michele Emiliano, President of Apulia, and Andrea Orlando, the Minister of Justice. Renzi was elected by a landslide 70%, and appointed Maurizio Martina as his deputy secretary. Electoral process Candidates were required to file their candidacies by 6 March 2017. Local and provincial conventions then take place all around the country, where party members vote on the candidates for secretary. Under party rules, the candidates who receive the support of at least the 15% of voting party members in local conventions, or the three most voted candidates above 5% of the vote, qualify for the second round of the race and have the chance to present their platform at the national convention.
