Cesare Damiano
Cesare Damiano (born 15 June 1948 in Cuneo) is an Italian politician, member of the Democratic Party. A former leading member of the CGIL trade union, Damiano has been a part of the Democrats of the Left national secretaryship since 2001. He is a former Minister of Labour. Biography In 1970 Cesare Damiano enrolled in the FIOM-CGIL of which he was corporate representative, responsible for the work among the employees and officer (from 1974); in 1976 he entered the secretariat of the Fiom-CGIL of Turin and from 1980 to 1989 he was general secretary of the same syndicate in Piedmont. At the beginning of 1991 he became secretary general of the Chamber of Labor of Turin; in November of the same year he was appointed deputy general secretary of the FIOM and occupied this post until 1996. In March 2000 he was appointed General Secretary of the CGIL of Veneto, a position he held until December 2001, when he was elected to the National Secretariat of the Democrats of the Left. CGIL
The Italian General Confederation of Labour (; CGIL) is a national trade union based in Italy. It was formed by agreement between socialists, communists, and Christian democrats in the "Pact of Rome" of June 1944. In 1950, socialists and Christian democrats split forming UIL and CISL, and since then the CGIL has been influenced by the Italian Communist Party (PCI) and until recent years by its political heirs: the Democratic Party of the Left (PDS), the Democrats of the Left (DS) and currently the Democratic Party (PD). It has been the most important Italian trade union since its creation. It has a membership of over 5.5 million. Along with the decline of membership within its political counterpart, the Democratic Party (PD), its membership is in steep decline since 2013, with the percentage of pensioners in constant rise. The second Prodi government was the cabinet of the government of Italy from 17 May 2006 to 8 May 2008, a total of 722 days, or 1 year, 11 months and 21 days. The 59th cabinet of the Italian Republic, it was the only cabinet of the XV Legislature. It was composed of 24 ministers, 10 deputy-ministers and 66 under-secretaries, for a total of 102 members. Turin ( , Piedmontese: ; it, Torino ) is a city and an important business and cultural centre in Northern Italy. Romano Antonio Prodi (; born 9 August 1939) is an Italian politician, economist, academic, senior civil servant, and business executive who served as the tenth president of the European Commission from 1999 to 2004.
