Judo Grand Slam
The Judo Grand Slam tournaments are international judo tournaments held by the International Judo Federation as part of the IJF World Tour. After the Olympic Games, World Championships and World Masters, the Grand Slam tournaments are the highest-ranking worldwide judo tournaments, i.e. the tournaments in which the judoka can acquire the most ranking points. While some sources states that the first Grand Slam tournament was held in Tokyo in December 2008, the IJF titled it as "Kano Cup", not "Grand Slam". International Judo Federation
The International Judo Federation (IJF) is the international governing body for judo, founded in July 1951. Today the IJF has 200 National Federations on all continents. There are over 20 million people around the globe who practice judo, according to the IJF. History On July 11, 1951 in London, the representatives of the European Judo Union (Great Britain, France, Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Switzerland) received the candidacy of Argentina and the International Judo Federation was created. The Grand Slam tournament in Düsseldorf is a judo tournament in Düsseldorf. It is the only Judo Grand Slam tournament in Germany. The Grand Prix tournament was held in Düsseldorf for the first time in 2010; it was the successor tournament to the Hamburg Grand Prix tournament. In 2018 the event was upgraded to a Grand Slam competition. There was no Grand Slam tournament in Düsseldorf in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
