Gadens is an Australian law firm which operates in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. The firm also offers services in Perth through Lavan Legal and in Launceston through Rae & Partners. It specialises in corporate and commercial law, property transactions, debt recovery and banking. History Gadens' history dates back to 1847. It was the first Australian law firm to establish a multi-disciplinary practice. It has previously had an office in Papua New Guinea. In 2011, the Brisbane office poached 13 property lawyers from Norton Rose, increasing its size to 30 partners and 270 staff. In 2013, the Sydney office of Gadens was ordered to pay almost $5 million in damages to Aussie Home Loans founder John Symond for negligent tax advice. Gadens appealed the ruling and got more than $1 million back. Dentons is the largest multinational law firm in the world. Dentons was ranked as the world's 4th- largest law firm by revenue, with $2.9B gross revenue by Global 200 ranking in the fiscal year 2021. The firm is called Dentons in all languages other than Chinese, in which it is called 大成 (Dacheng). Dentons was founded in March 2013 by the merger of SNR Denton, Fraser Milner Casgrain and Salans. Following its merger with Chinese law firm Dacheng in November 2015, Dentons became the largest law firm in the world by number of lawyers and has the most offices of any law firm in the world, covering every continent. John Joseph Symond (born 17 August 1947) is an Australian entrepreneur, former financial executive, and the founder of Aussie Home Loans. Early life Symond was born on 17 August 1947 in Crookwell, New South Wales and raised in Sydney. He spent most of his time between Brisbane, where his mother's family lived, and Sydney, near his father's relatives. He was one of seven children and the son of Lebanese immigrant fruit shop owners, and regularly helped at his parents shop before and after school.
