Gadiformes
Gadiformes are an order of ray-finned fish, also called the Anacanthini, that includes the cod. Many major food fish are in this order. They are found in marine waters throughout the world and the vast majority of the species are found in temperate or colder regions (tropical species are typically deep-water). A few species may enter estuaries but only one, the burbot (''Lota lota''), is a freshwater fish. Common characteristics include the positioning of the pelvic fins (if present), below or in front of the pectoral fins. Daniel Morris Cohen
Daniel Morris Cohen (6 July 1930 - 26 September 2016) was an American ichthyologist who was known for his studies on the taxonomy of salmonid, gadid, and ophidiform fishes. Cohen mainly studied the taxonomy of deep-sea fishes in the orders Salmoniformes, Gadiformes, and Ophidiformes. He held the post of professor of biology at the University of Florida for one year. He then took an appointment at the U.S. Bureau of Commercial Fisheries Ichthyological Laboratory in Washington, D.C. as a systematic zoologist. Allan Riverstone McCulloch
Allan Riverstone McCulloch (20 June 1885 – 1 September 1925) was a prominent Australian ichthyologist. Born in Sydney, Australia, McCulloch began his scientific career at the age of 13 as an unpaid assistant to Edgar Ravenswood Waite in the Australian Museum where Waite encouraged McCulloch to study zoology. Three years later, he was employed as a "mechanical assistant", and five years after that, as curator of fishes, a post he held until his death. McCulloch collected and published prolifically; from his first paper in 1906 (published in ''Records of the Australian Museum''), no year passed without his making a contribution to science, and he wrote over 100 original papers in all, many including his own illustrations. Eucla is the easternmost locality in Western Australia, located in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia along the Eyre Highway, approximately west of the South Australian border. At the 2016 Australian census, Eucla had a population of 53. It is the only Western Australian location on the Eyre Highway that has a direct view of the Great Australian Bight due to its elevated position immediately next to the Eucla Pass – where the highway moves out and above the basin known as Roe Plains that occurs between the Madura and Eucla passes.
