Ernesto Nicolini
Ernesto Nicolini (23 February 1834 – 18 January 1898) was a French operatic dramatic tenor, particularly associated with the French and Italian repertories. Born Ernest Nicolas in Saint Malo, July Monarchy, France, he studied at the Paris Conservatory and made his debut in 1857, at the Opéra-Comique in Fromental Halévy, Halevy's ''Les mousquetaires de la reine''. After further study in Italy, he made his debut at La Scala in Milan in 1859, under the name Ernesto Nicolini, as Alfredo in ''La traviata'', other roles there included Rodrigo in Rossini's ''Otello (Rossini), Otello'', and Elvino in Vincenzo Bellini, Bellini's ''La sonnambula''. On his return to France he sang at the Théâtre-Italien from 1862 until 1869. He made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in London in 1866, as Edgardo in ''Lucia di Lammermoor'', without great success due to the pronounced vibrato that marred his singing. Covent Garden is a district in London, on the eastern fringes of the West End, between St Martin's Lane and Drury Lane. Adelina Patti (19 February 184327 September 1919) was a Spanish-Italian opera singer. At the height of her career, she was earning huge fees performing in the music capitals of Europe and America. She first sang in public as a child in 1851, and gave her last performance before an audience in 1914. Along with her near contemporaries Jenny Lind and Christina Nilsson, Patti remains one of the most famous sopranos in history, owing to the purity and beauty of her lyrical voice and the unmatched quality of her ''bel canto'' technique. The composer Giuseppe Verdi, writing in 1877, described her as being perhaps the finest singer who had ever lived and a "stupendous artist". Charles Lenepveu
Charles-Ferdinand Lenepveu (4 October 1840 – 16 August 1910), was a French composer and teacher. Destined for a career as a lawyer, he defied his family and followed a musical career. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, and won France's top musical award, the Prix de Rome in 1867. Much of Lenepveu's career was as a professor at the Conservatoire from 1880. He was known as a strict conservative, hostile to musical innovation, as was much of the French musical Establishment of the time. He was expected to succeed Théodore Dubois as director of the Conservatoire in 1905, but his chances evaporated when he was implicated in an attempt to rig the results of that year's Prix de Rome in favour of his own pupils. ''Lohengrin'' ( in German language, German), Wagner-Werk-Verzeichnis, WWV 75, is a Romanticism, Romantic opera in three acts composed and written by Richard Wagner, first performed in 1850. The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, commonly known as Drury Lane, is a West End theatre and Grade I listed building in Covent Garden, London, England.
