Embassy Of Fiji, Brussels
The Embassy of Fiji to Belgium is responsible for Fiji's diplomatic relations with the Belgium. Established in July 1973, it doubles as Fiji's Mission to the European Union. The Ambassador to Belgium, currently Ratu Seremaia Tui Cavuilati, also holds the title of Permanent Representative to the European Union. He is assisted by two Counsellors ( Tupou Raturaga and Nidhendra Singh, who is responsible for agriculture and trade) and by Ms N. Khatri, the Second Secretary. Visitors to Fiji must obtain a visa from one of the Fijian diplomatic missions unless they come from one of the 109 visa exempt countries. All visitors must hold a passport valid for 6 months. __TOC__ Types Visas There are two types of visa one for a single visits or one for multiple. Single visit visas are for one visit within three months. Multiple visit visas are good for multiple visits over a period of twelve months. The paperwork required depends on the visit type and must be done prior to travel. Fiji has experienced many coups recently, in 1987, 2000, and 2006. Fiji has been suspended various times from the Commonwealth of Nations, a grouping of mostly former British colonies. It was readmitted to the Commonwealth in December 2001, following the parliamentary election held to restore democracy in September that year, and has been suspended again because of the 2006 coup, but has been readmitted a second time after the 2014 election.
