Dog Meat Records
Dog Meat Records was a record label releasing music from bands in the Australian independent rock music scene in the 1990s. It released music from such artists as Hoss, The Philisteins, Powder Monkeys, Splatterheads and Blues Hangover, including some non-Australian musical acts. Dog Meat was a continuation of an earlier label, Grown Up Wrong!, which released records, including some by local Melbourne bands in the mid 1980s. Both of these labels were entirely creatively controlled by Dave Laing, from Melbourne. Also, both labels were named after songs, Grown Up Wrong after a Rolling Stones song, and Dog Meat after a Flamin' Groovies song. In 1993 the label issued a various artists compilation album, ''Set It on Fire''. Hoss (band)
Hoss are an Australian hard rock band which formed in 1990 by Joel Silbersher on guitar and lead vocals (ex-God), Scott Bailey on bass guitar, Todd McNeair on drums (ex- Seminal Rats), and Michael Weber on lead guitar (ex-Seminal Rats, Slush Puppies). They released five albums, ''Guzzle'' (1990), ''You Get Nothing'' (April 1992), ''Bring on the Juice'' (August 1993), ''Everyday Lies'' (November 1995) and ''Do You Leave Here Often'' (February 1998). In 1992 McNeair was replaced by Michael Glenn on drums, who was replaced in turn in 1995 by Dean Muller. Michael Weber, who had been replaced in 1992 by Jimmy Sfetsos on guitar. The Philisteins
The Philisteins were a garage punk band formed in Hobart in 1985 as The Cheesemongers with a line-up including; Aydn Hibberd on guitar, vocals and harmonica; and Guy Lucas on guitar, vocals and organ. In 1986 Konrad Park joined on drums and they adopted a new name, The Philisteins. In late 1986 they issued their debut album, ''Reverberations'', and soon after relocated to Adelaide and signed with local label, Greasy Pop Records. In December 1988 they released an eight-track extended play, ''Bloody Convicts'', Ian Wettenhall on bass guitar and Nick Bruer on drums. They followed with a six-track EP, ''Some Kind of Philisteins'', in November 1989, with Bruer replaced by Stewart Tabert. Their full-length album, ''Lifestyles of the Wretched and Forgettable'', appeared in November of the next year on Dog Meat Records and they had moved to Melbourne. Powder Monkeys
Powder Monkeys were an Australian punk, indie rock band, formed in 1991. The founding mainstays, Tim Hemensley, on bass guitar and lead vocals and John Nolan on lead guitar were both ex-members of Bored!. Powder Monkeys released three studio albums, ''Smashed on a Knee'' (March 1994), ''Time Wounds all Heels'' (February 1996) and ''Lost City Blues'' (2000), before they broke up in 2002. Tim Hemensley died on 21 July 2003, aged 31, of a heroin overdose. History 1980s: Pre Powder Monkeys Hemensley had formed GOD as a punk rock group in 1986. Their most popular track, " My Pal", was released as a single in 1987. They disbanded in July 1989 just before their debut album, ''For Lovers Only'', appeared. Splatterheads
Splatterheads were an Australian punk rock band, which formed in 1987. They issued three albums, ''Ink of a Mad Man's Pen'' (1989), ''Bot, the Album'' (1993) and ''Joined at the Head'' (1996), before disbanding in 1996. They re-united in 2010 to perform and released a compilation album, ''Splatter Platter''. History Splatterheads were formed in 1987 as a punk rock band, Lompoc County Splatterheads, by Adrian Carroll on guitar, Simon "Sly" Faulkner ( Sly T-Bone) on guitar and vocals, Christo Fletcher ( Big Guy) on vocals and guitar, Micky Scott on drums and Peter "PT" Thompson on bass guitar. Fletcher, Scott and Thompson shared a house together in Surry Hills when they decided to start a band. They soon recruited Carroll and Faulkner. Peter Wells (guitarist)
Peter William "Pete" Wells (13 December 194627 March 2006) was the founder and slide guitarist in Australian hard rock band, Rose Tattoo, from 1976 to 1983. He was previously bass guitarist with the pioneering heavy metal outfit Buffalo from 1971 to 1976. Wells also had a solo career and issued albums, ''Everything You Like Tries to Kill You'' (1991), ''The Meaning of Life'' (1992), ''No Hard Feelings'' (1993), ''Orphans'' (1994), ''Go Ahead, Call the Cops'' (1996), ''It's All Fun and Games 'till Somebody Gets Hurt'' (1999), ''Hateball'' (2000) and ''Solo'' (2002). In 2002, he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and, on 27 March 2006, Wells died of the disease, aged 59. Rose Tattoo were inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame on 16 August of that same year.
