The Vietnam Basketball Association, abbreviated as VBA, is a Vietnamese national professional basketball league founded in 2016. It runs an annual tournament, the Vietnam Pro Basketball League (). History The formation of the VBA was announced by charter team Saigon Heat following their completion of the 2015–16 ASEAN Basketball League season. Leading up to the inaugural season, the VBA expected that six teams would compete in the new league. However, only five teams were officially unveiled. To oversee league operations, the VBA looked to the Philippines for personnel with extensive basketball experience. Tonichi Pujante was named the inaugural league commissioner. 2021 VBA Season
The 2021 VBA season was the sixth season of the Vietnam Basketball Association. The regular season began on 10 July but was canceled on 27 August due to a new surge of the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam. The season was scheduled to start on 4 June, with the regular season and postseason set to be played in bubbles in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. However, the start was postponed due to a surge of the Delta variant of COVID-19. Teams All seven teams from the 2020 season returned. The Vietnam national team was added as the eighth team to help prepare for the 2021 SEA Games. Stefan Nguyen (; born 24 February 1992) is a retired Vietnamese-Swedish professional basketball player for the Hanoi Buffaloes of the VBA and Saigon Heat of the ABL. He is a VBA champion 2016 with Da Nang Dragons. He is a member of the Vietnamese Men's National Team and represented them last in the SEA GAMES 30 in the Philippines. Stefan holds two passports. Swedish and Vietnamese. His parents are Vietnamese immigrants. Early career Stefan was born in a small town city of Ängelholm in southern Sweden.
