Communist Platform (Netherlands)
The Communist Platform is a Dutch orthodox Marxist political organisation, founded in 2014. The Platform publishes articles about topical and historical political events and developments from a Marxist point of view. The Platform also organises reading groups and seminars on various subjects and translates Marxist works into Dutch. Finally, the Platform participates in the Dutch labour movement, for example by publishing voting recommendations for congresses and leadership elections within the Dutch Socialist Party. Ideology The Communist Platform labels itself as orthodox Marxist. The Platform sees the labour movement as an arena for ideological struggle in which communists should fight for a Marxist program. Because of this, the members of the Platform are active within the Socialist Party (SP), trade unions, protest movements and other workers’ organisations. Nieuwsuur (''News Hour'') is a Dutch current affairs television program produced for the NPO by the government broadcasters NOS and NTR. It is broadcast daily between 9.30 pm and 10 pm (9.30-10 pm at weekends) on NPO 2. The programme pays particular attention to Dutch and European politics, as well as other international events; in addition, there is a sports news bulletin in each broadcast. History As early as 2008 there were plans for a new news programme, combining NOVA, the NOS Journaal and ''Den Haag Vandaag'' (The Hague Today). The plan for this programme was rejected by the NPO board of directors after complaints from other broadcasters, as was the cooperation between the membership-based broadcaster VARA and the public broadcasters NPS and NOS. Communist Party Of Great Britain
The Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) was the largest communist organisation in Britain and was founded in 1920 through a merger of several smaller Marxist groups. Many miners joined the CPGB in the 1926 general strike. In 1930, the CPGB founded the ''Daily Worker'' (renamed the ''Morning Star'' in 1966). In 1936, members of the party were present at the Battle of Cable Street, helping organise resistance against the British Union of Fascists. In the Spanish Civil War the CPGB worked with the USSR to create the British Battalion of the International Brigades, which party activist Bill Alexander commanded. In World War II, the CPGB mirrored the Soviet position, opposing or supporting the war in line with the involvement of the USSR. By the end of World War II, CPGB membership had nearly tripled and the party reached the height of its popularity. The Communist Party of Great Britain is a political group which publishes the '' Weekly Worker'' newspaper. The CPGB (PCC) claims to have "an internationalist duty to uphold the principle, 'One state, one party'. ROOD
A rood or rood cross, sometimes known as a triumphal cross, is a cross or crucifix, especially the large crucifix set above the entrance to the chancel of a medieval church. Alternatively, it is a large sculpture or painting of the crucifixion of Jesus. Derivation ''Rood'' is an archaic word for ''pole'', from Old English 'pole', specifically 'cross', from , cognate to Old Saxon , Old High German 'rod'. ''Rood'' was originally the only Old English word for the instrument of Jesus Christ's death. Arnout Hoekstra (born 2 December 1984) is a Dutch politician. Orthodox Marxism
Orthodox Marxism is the body of Marxist thought that emerged after the death of Karl Marx (1818–1883) and which became the official philosophy of the majority of the socialist movement as represented in the Second International until the First World War in 1914. Orthodox Marxism aims to simplify, codify and systematize Marxist method and theory by clarifying the perceived ambiguities and contradictions of classical Marxism. The philosophy of orthodox Marxism argues that material development (advances in technology in the productive forces) is the primary agent of change in the structure of society. Orthodox Marxists believe that certain social systems (e.g. feudalism, capitalism and so on) become contradictory as productive forces develop, resulting in social revolutions in response to those mounting contradictions.
