Abbiategrasso
Abbiategrasso, formerly written Abbiate Grasso. (local lmo, Biegrass ; lmo, label= Milanese, Biaa ), is a ''comune'' and town in the Metropolitan City of Milan, Lombardy, northern Italy, situated in the Po valley approximately from Milan and from Pavia. History The town dates from Roman times. Its name indicates that it was part of a territory known as "'the fertile valley": a document of 1304 referring to the ''Habiate qui dicitur Grasso'', a title that gradually transformed into Abbiategrasso. Abbiategrasso received the honorary title of city with a royal decree of 31 March 1932. Visconti Castle (Abbiategrasso)
The Visconti Castle of Abbiategrasso is a mediaeval castle located in Abbiategrasso, Lombardy, northern Italy. It lies on the Naviglio Grande axis toward Milan. From its towers the navigation along the canal could be controlled. In the 15th century it was one of the preferred residences of the dukes and duchesses of Milan. History The Visconti Castle of Abbiategrasso was probably built at the end of the 13th century on the site of a previous fortification (''Castro Margazario'') near a Benedictine monastery. First Azzone Visconti (1329–1339), lord of Milan, and then Gian Galeazzo Visconti (1378–1402), the first duke of Milan, enlarged the castle. In 1438 it was restored and embellished by Duke Filippo Maria Visconti, son of Gian Galeazzo. Giuseppina Tuissi
Giuseppina Tuissi, better known as Gianna (also ''La Staffetta Gianna''; 23 June 1923 – 23 June 1945) was an Italian communist and partisan during World War II. She was part of the 52nd Brigata Garibaldi "Luigi Clerici". From September 1944, she was a collaborator of the partisan Luigi Canali (known as the captain ''Neri'') and, with him, had an important role in the arrest and the execution of Benito Mussolini and Clara Petacci. Early life Giuseppina was born in 1923 in Abbiategrasso, in the Province of Milan. She lived and worked as laborer in Baggio, a Milan suburb. Franco Moschino
Franco Moschino (27 February 1950 – 18 September 1994) was an Italian fashion designer best known as the founder of the Italian fashion house Moschino. Early years He was born in Abbiategrasso, Lombardy, located c. 22 km from Milan. Moschino's family owned an iron foundry that his father hoped he would work. However, Moschino was interested in fine art and aspired to be a painter. In 1968, he ran away from home to Milan where he enrolled at the Brera Academy. To finance his studies, he worked as a freelance fashion illustrator for fashion houses and magazines. The experience prompted Moschino to switch his focus to fashion and drop out from the academy to study at the Marangoni Institute. Christian Abbiati (born 8 July 1977) is an Italian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Abbiati, who had been with AC Milan since 1998, started his career with Monza, and later played more than 300 official matches for Milan. Ellwangen an der Jagst, officially Ellwangen (Jagst), in common use simply Ellwangen () is a town in the district of Ostalbkreis in the east of Baden-Württemberg in Germany.
