Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the program at the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympics. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. Basic play The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. The receiving team must not let the ball be grounded within their court. Kira Walkenhorst
Kira Katharina Walkenhorst (born 18 November 1990) is a German retired beach volleyball player who played as a Beach volleyball#Player specializations, blocker. She has an older brother Alexander Walkenhorst who is a professional beach volleyball player and a younger sister Pia Walkenhorst who also plays beach volleyball. Walkenhorst won the gold medal at the Beach volleyball at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Women's tournament, 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro together and at the 2017 Beach Volleyball World Championships – Women's tournament, 2017 World Championships with her teammate Laura Ludwig. She also won bronze medals at the 2013 and 2014 European Beach Volleyball Championships and gold medals at the 2015 and 2016 Beach ECH alongside her teammate Laura Ludwig. Laura Ludwig
Laura Ludwig-Bowes (born 13 January 1986) is a German professional beach volleyball player, playing as a defender. Previously forming a pair with compatriot Kira Walkenhorst, she represents Hamburger SV and has won four European championships. She won the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She added another medal, Gold, at the 2016 World Tour Finals in Toronto. In 2017, she and Walkenhorst won the World Championship in Vienna. Biography Ludwig was born in East Berlin, East Germany. Reinder Aart Nummerdor (born 10 September 1976) is a Dutch volleyball player who represented his native country at five consecutive Summer Olympics. Two times as a member of the indoor volleyball team in 2000 and 2004, and three more times after switching to beach volleyball. Having finished in fifth place in Sydney, Australia he ended up in ninth place with the Dutch Men's National Team four years later in Athens, Greece. He earned a total number of 349 caps, and teamed up with Richard Schuil after the Athens Games for a career in beach volleyball. Talita Antunes da Rocha (born August 29, 1982) is a Brazilian beach volleyball player, playing as a blocker. She was Fédération Internationale de Volleyball, FIVB rookie of the year in 2005, and FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, World Tour Winner twice, in 2013 and 2015. Career Born in Aquidauana, Antunes caught the attention of Beach volleyball at the 1996 Summer Olympics, Olympic Champion Jackie Silva at the age of 19. Larissa França Maestrini (born April 14, 1982) is a Brazilian beach volleyball player. She is the all-time leader of beach volleyball titles, with 57 FIVB career gold medals, including the 2011 Beach Volleyball World Championships with Juliana Felisberta and the 2015 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour with Talita Antunes. Joshua "Josh" Binstock (born January 12, 1981), nicknamed Binner, is a male two-time Olympian beach volleyball player from Canada. He competed in the 2012 Olympics in London and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
