History

WSFC began broadcasting at 2:35 p.m. Central Time on December 14, 1947. On September 1, 1948, it became an affiliate of the Mutual network. The station was owned by Southeastern Broadcasting Company, Incorporated and broadcast on 1240 kHz with 250 watts of power. An FM counterpart, WSFC-FM (now

) was signed-on in 1964. Over the course of its history, WSFC has changed hands numerous times. The station was launched by a group of local businessman. WSFC was sold to former congressman Wendell H. Meade before being acquired by then-general manager Mike Layman in 1950. Fifteen years later, the WSFC stations were sold to Swartz Media, a division of the Roanoke Photo Finishing Company. In turn, WSFC and WSEK-FM were transferred to Shamrock Communications in 1974. In 1980, they were sold again, this time to First Radio. Two years later, the station became the first Kentucky-based
