History
Toshima was formed in 1932 by the merger of four towns, Sugamochō, Nishi-sugamochō, Takadachō, and Nagasakichō, bordered by the quickly expanding former
city of Tokyo.
The area evolved from a suburban agricultural district in the
Edo period
