After constant media speculation that he would return to Melbourne, Warnock confirmed this at the end of the season. On the final day of the 2008 trade week, Warnock was traded to his preferred new destination, Carlton, on a highly lucrative 4 year contract. He had both shoulders reconstructed at the end of 2011, which delayed his start to the 2012 season. He had his 2012 season cut short due to a shoulder reconstruction and ankle surgery, but he signed a new lucrative 3-year contract in the same season. Warnock played 12 games in 2013 due to a knee injury sustained mid year. He returned at the end of the year and again had an excellent finals series. He played the first 16 games of the 2014 season, and he only played 2 games in 2015 due to another shoulder reconstruction. Warnock was delisted in October 2015. He retired from football at the end of 2015 due to medical advice.
