Politics in North Macedonia occur within the framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic, whereby the Prime Minister is the head of government, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature. Political system The political system of North Macedonia consists of three branches: Legislative, Executive and Judicial. The Constitution is the highest law of the country. Boris Trajkovski ( GCMG; , pronounced ; 25 June 1956 – 26 February 2004) was a Macedonian politician who served as the President of Macedonia from 1999 until his death in 2004 in a plane crash. Early life Trajkovski was born on 25 June 1956 in the village of Murtino in the region of Strumica in PR Macedonia, FPR Yugoslavia (modern North Macedonia), into a Methodist family. He studied at a gymnasium in Strumica. As a Methodist Christian, he led the Yugoslav Methodist youth organization for 12 years. Trajkovski graduated in 1980 with a degree in law from the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. He also studied at a Protestant theological college in the United States. Assembly Of North Macedonia
The Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia is the unicameral legislature of North Macedonia. According to the Constitution, the Sobranie represents the people and is vested with legislative power. It can have between 120 and 140 MPs (currently 120), elected by proportional representation from 6 electoral districts, each contributing 20 MPs, and there are also 3 reserved seats elected from the Macedonian diaspora which are awarded only if the voter turnout was sufficient. MPs are elected for a term of four years and cannot be recalled during their term. The Sobranie is presided over by a President. Its organization and functioning are regulated by the Constitution and Rules of Procedure. For Our Macedonia (ZNAM, ; ; ) is a political party in North Macedonia founded by former SDSM member and current Mayor of Kumanovo, Maksim Dimitrievski. The coat of arms of the President of the Republic of North Macedonia is the official coat of arms of the President of North Macedonia. It was adopted on 2 December 2009, designed by the Macedonian Heraldic Society, Macedonian Heraldry Society earlier that year, having been registered by the society on 10 June. The shield of the coat of arms has the sun from the flag of North Macedonia. Below the shield are two branches of Quercus trojana, Macedonian oak with eight leaves and acorns on each branch. Hristijan Mickoski (, ; born 29 September 1977) is a Macedonian politician and former mechanical engineer, currently serving as Prime Minister of North Macedonia, a position he has held since June 2024. He is also a university professor and the party leader of VMRO-DPMNE. In 2016, Mickoski became the director of '' Power Plants of Macedonia'', and in the period from 2015 to 2017, he was an energy advisor to prime ministers Nikola Gruevski and Emil Dimitriev. The Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization – Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (), abbreviated as VMRO-DPMNE (), is a conservative and the main centre-right to right-wing political party in North Macedonia.
