The Spanish Basketball Federation (; FEB) is the governing body of basketball in Spain. Based in Madrid, it was founded on 31 July 1923 in Barcelona, Spain. It organizes all the female national competitions ( Liga Femenina (1st), Liga Femenina 2 (2nd), Copa de la Reina and Supercopa de España), and three of the four male nation-wide leagues (Primera FEB (2nd), Segunda FEB (3rd) and Tercera FEB (4th)), while oversees the 1st tier, Liga ACB. It is also responsible for appointing the management of the men's, women's, and youth national basketball teams. As of 2023, the federation has 3,069 registered clubs and 411,885 federated basketball players, being the second biggest federation after the Football Federation. The Spain women's national basketball team () represents Spain in international women's basketball competition and are regulated by the Spanish Basketball Federation, the governing body for basketball in Spain. Spain has one of the most successful women's national teams in the world, being the current FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 silver medallists. History Spain women's basketball team played their first official game in Malgrat de Mar, Barcelona, against Switzerland on 16 June 1963, losing 31–40. They won their first game against the same team two days later, 47–39. It would take six years to play another international friendly game, losing to Cuba 50–70 on 28 September 1969. Tercera FEB
The Tercera FEB, formerly known as Liga EBA (''Liga Española de Baloncesto Aficionado''), is a Spanish basketball championship that is the fourth tier level in the Spanish basketball league system, after the Liga ACB, Primera FEB and Segunda FEB. It is administered by the FEB. It was previously the Spanish second tier level competition from 1994 to 1996, the third tier level from 1996 to 2000, and the fifth tier level, from 2007 to 2009. From the 2024–25 season it will be named Tercera FEB. Competition format The Tercera FEB is made up of five inter-regional groups. After the regular season, sixteen teams advance to the playoffs, where only four teams are promoted to the Segunda FEB. The lowest ranked teams of each group, are relegated to the Primera División. Copa De La Reina De Baloncesto
The Copa de la Reina de Baloncesto (English: Queen's Cup of Basketball) is an annual cup competition for Spanish women's basketball teams. The first edition of the competition, originally named Women's Senior Basketball Championship, took place in 1943, which makes it the oldest Spanish women's basketball competition, but it was only since 1978, when it took its current name, that it has been carried every year. The 2012 cup marked the 50th edition of the competition. The cup is played by the top teams of the Spanish Women's League's table in the mid of the season. After several formats in previous years, the 2019 edition reverted to the Final Eight format. The Spain Cup (Spanish: ''Copa España'') is a annual 2nd-tier level league cup competition for Spanish basketball teams, that is organized by the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB). It is contested annually by clubs from Primera FEB and Segunda FEB, Spain's 2nd and 3rd-tier level leagues. It was played for the first time in the 2024–25 season. History On 24 May 2024, the Spanish Basketball Federation announced the creation of the new Spain Cup with the aim to replace the Copa Princesa de Asturias and the Copa LEB Plata by merging both competitions. It made its debut in the 2024–25 season. Format For the 2024–25 season, 40 teams from Primera FEB and Segunda FEB joined the competition in its first stage, and were divided into 8 groups of five teams. Primera FEB
The Primera FEB, formerly known as LEB or LEB Oro, is the second basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system after the Liga ACB. It is run by the Spanish Basketball Federation, FEB. The FEB leagues are divided into three categories (the other two are the Segunda FEB and the Tercera FEB). The league was founded in 1996 and is played under FIBA rules. The league is contested by 18 clubs. Each season, the top-finishing team in the Primera FEB are automatically promoted to the Liga ACB. The teams that finish the season in 2nd to 9th place enter a playoff tournament, with the winner also gaining promotion to the Liga ACB. The three lowest-finishing teams in the Primera FEB are relegated to Segunda FEB.
