U.S. Marshals (film)
''U.S. Marshals'' is a 1998 American crime action film directed by Stuart Baird, and written by John Pogue. The film is a sequel to '' The Fugitive'' (1993), and is the second release from the franchise of the same name. Though the plot references the character, Dr. Richard Kimble (portrayed by Harrison Ford in the initial film) does not appear; rather, it centers on United States Deputy Marshal Sam Gerard, once again played by Tommy Lee Jones. The plot follows Gerard and his team as they pursue another fugitive, Mark Sheridan, played by Wesley Snipes, who attempts to escape government officials following an international conspiracy scandal. The film cast features Robert Downey Jr., Joe Pantoliano, Daniel Roebuck, Tom Wood, and LaTanya Richardson, several of whom portrayed deputy marshals in the previous film. Stuart Baird (born 14 January 1947) is an English film editor, producer, and director who is mainly associated with action films. He has edited over thirty major motion pictures. Life and career Baird has had an List of film director and editor collaborations, extended collaboration with director Richard Donner. For Baird's work on ''Superman (1978 film), Superman'' in 1978, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Film Editing#1970s, Academy Award for Film Editing. He received another nomination for editing ''Gorillas in the Mist'' (1988). Prior to his working relationship with Richard Donner, Baird worked as assistant director and assistant editor on different projects before editing Ken Russell's ''Tommy (1975 film), Tommy''. The Justice Prisoner and Alien Transportation System (JPATS), nicknamed "Con Air", is a United States Marshals Service airline charged with the transportation of persons in legal custody between prisons, detention centers, courthouses, and other locations. It is the largest prison transport network in the world. Though primarily used by the Federal Bureau of Prisons or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, JPATS also assists military and state law enforcement.
