The name Louise has been used for eleven tropical cyclones worldwide, ten in the Western Pacific Ocean and one in the South-West Indian Ocean. A tropical cyclone is a rapidly rotating storm system characterized by a low-pressure center, a closed low-level atmospheric circulation, strong winds, and a spiral arrangement of thunderstorms that produce heavy rain and squalls. Depending on its location and strength, a tropical cyclone is referred to by different names, including hurricane (), typhoon (), tropical storm, cyclonic storm, tropical depression, or simply cyclone. A hurricane is a strong tropical cyclone that occurs in the Atlantic Ocean or northeastern Pacific Ocean, and a typhoon occurs in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. Typhoon Louise (1945)
Typhoon Louise, known in Japan as the , was a deadly and destructive tropical cyclone that hit Japan, with the area hardest hit being Hyogo Prefecture. It caused at least 377 deaths and another 74 missing persons, while leaving a wide swath of damage across the country. It took place just after the cessation of World War II, causing severe damage to bases and forces that had just finished fighting in the conflict. Being the twenty-third named storm and twelfth typhoon of the 1945 Pacific typhoon season, Louise was first seen developing on October 2 near the Caroline Islands. Moving to the northwest, it slowly organized until it strengthened to a tropical storm on the next day. The 1951 Pacific typhoon season was a generally below average season with multiple tropical cyclones striking the Philippines. With the exception of January, each month saw at least one tropical system develop; October was the most active month with four tropical cyclones forming. Overall, there were 21 tropical depressions, of which 17 became named storms; of those, there were 16 typhoons. The season began with the formation of a short-lived unnamed tropical storm on February 19, well east of the Philippines; Typhoon Georgia became the season's first named storm and typhoon after first developing in the open Pacific on March 20. The 1955 Pacific typhoon season has no official bounds; it ran year-round in 1955, but most tropical cyclones tend to form in the northwestern Pacific Ocean between June and December. The 1962 Pacific typhoon season had no official bounds; there was activity in every month but January, March, and June, but most tropical cyclones form in the northwestern Pacific Ocean between May and November and this conventionally delimits the season. The majority of the Pacific typhoons in 1962 formed in the Pacific Ocean north of the equator and west of the International Date Line with two exceptions: Tropical Depressions Fifty and Sixty-three formed in the Central Pacific. Typhoon Louise–Marge, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Ining–Liling, was a powerful tropical cyclone that impacted Palau and the Philippines in November 1964. It was one of the most destructive typhoons documented in the central Philippines. Tracking data from meteorological agencies disagree whether the storm was a single tropical cyclone or two distinct tropical cyclones that occurred in quick succession, named separately by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) as ''Louise'' and ''Marge'' (and by the PAGASA, Philippine Weather Bureau as ''Ining'' and ''Liling'').
