Prefix Sum
In computer science, the prefix sum, cumulative sum, inclusive scan, or simply scan of a sequence of numbers is a second sequence of numbers , the summation, sums of Prefix (computer science), prefixes (running totals) of the input sequence: : : : :... For instance, the prefix sums of the natural numbers are the triangular numbers: : Prefix sums are trivial to compute in sequential models of computation, by using the formula to compute each output value in sequence order. However, despite their ease of computation, prefix sums are a useful primitive in certain algorithms such as counting sort,. and they form the basis of the scan higher-order function in functional programming languages. Prefix sums have also been much studied in parallel algorithms, both as a test problem to be solved and as a useful primitive to be used as a subroutine in other parallel algorithms.. Abstractly, a prefix sum requires only a semigroup, binary associative operator ⊕, making it useful for many a ...

Scan Chain
Scan chain is a technique used in design for testing (DFT). The objective is to make testing easier by providing a simple way to set and observe every flip-flop in an IC. It simplifies the testing and debugging of complex digital systems. In scan-based design, flip-flops operate in two distinct modes: normal mode and scan mode. In normal mode, they support regular system operations. In scan mode, however, they are reconfigured into one long shift registers, known as Scan Chain. The basic structure of scan include the following set of signals in order to control and observe the scan mechanism. # Scan_in (SI) and Scan_out (SO) define the input and output of a scan chain. In a full scan mode usually each input drives only one chain and scan out observe one as well. # A scan enable (SE) pin is a special signal that is added to a design. When this signal is asserted, every flip-flop in the design is connected into a long shift register. # Clock signal which is used for controlling al ...

DMSA Scan
A DMSA scan is a radionuclide scan that uses dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) in assessing renal morphology, structure and function. Radioactive technetium-99m is combined with DMSA and injected into a patient, followed by imaging with a gamma camera after 2-3 hours. A DMSA scan is usually static imaging, while other radiotracers like DTPA and MAG3 are usually used for dynamic imaging to assess renal excretion. The major clinical indications for this investigation are # Detection and/or evaluation of a renal scar, especially in patients having vesicoureteric reflux (VUR) # Small or absent kidney (renal agenesis), # Ectopic kidneys (sometimes cannot be visualized by ultrasonography of abdomen due to intestinal gas) # Evaluation of an occult duplex system, # Characterization of certain renal masses, # Evaluation of systemic hypertension especially young hypertensive and in cases of suspected vasculitis. # It is sometimes used as a test for the diagnosis of acute pyelonephritis ...

Graham Scan
Graham's scan is a method of finding the convex hull of a finite set of points in the plane with time complexity O(''n'' log ''n''). It is named after Ronald Graham, who published the original algorithm in 1972. The algorithm finds all vertices of the convex hull ordered along its boundary. It uses a stack to detect and remove concavities in the boundary efficiently. Algorithm The first step in this algorithm is to find the point with the lowest y-coordinate. If the lowest y-coordinate exists in more than one point in the set, the point with the lowest x-coordinate out of the candidates should be chosen. Call this point ''P''. This step takes O(''n''), where ''n'' is the number of points in question. Next, the set of points must be sorted in increasing order of the angle they and the point ''P'' make with the x-axis. Any general-purpose sorting algorithm is appropriate for this, for example heapsort (which is O(''n'' log ''n'')). Sorting in order of angle does not require ...

Switch Access Scanning
Switch access scanning is an indirect selection technique (or access method), used with switch access by an assistive technology user, including those who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), to choose items from the selection set. Unlike direct selection (e.g., typing on a keyboard, touching a screen), a scanner can only make selections when the scanning indicator (or cursor) of the electronic device is on the desired choice.Beukelman & Mirenda, 2005, p. 97 The scanning indicator moves through items by highlighting each item on the screen (i.e., visual scanning), or by announcing each item via voice output (i.e., auditory scanning), and then the user activates a switch to select the item.American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. (2004Roles and Responsibilities of Speech-Language Pathologists With Respect to Augmentative and Alternative Communication: Technical Report/ref> The speed and pattern of scanning, as well as the way items are selected, are individua ...

Partner-assisted Scanning
Partner-assisted scanning or listener-assisted scanning is an augmentative and alternative communication technique used to enable a person with severe speech impairments to communicate. The approach is used with individuals who, due to sickness or disability, have severe motor impairments and good memory and attention skills. It is used as an alternative to direct access (e.g. pointing) to symbols, pictures, or speech generating devices when these are not used.Lilienthal, N. (2009)What is Partner Assisted Visual Scanning? Retrieved May 2010. Users of partner-assisted scanning Partner-assisted scanning is a technique used with children who have severe motor and communication impairments, and especially those with additional visual impairment, those who do not yet have an established alternative form of communication, or who are unable to use their usual method, perhaps because their electronic speech output device is being repaired. Adults may also use scanning with a partner whe ...

Scan Furniture
Scan Furniture was a co-operative furniture chain that operated six stores in the metropolitan Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area selling modern Scandinavian furniture. Unusually, it was founded in 1938 as a grocery store in Greenbelt, Maryland, which became the Greenbelt Cooperative in 1940. The cooperative grew to include a gas station and furniture store. In 1984, the board of directors sold the grocery store and gas operations to concentrate on its Scan division. The grocery store remains a cooperative called the Greenbelt Consumers Cooperative. In 1978 Scan Furniture was the largest teak importer in the country and imported about $10 million worth of teak every year. It was based in Rockville, Maryland Rockville is a city in and the county seat of Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, and is part of the Washington metropolitan area. The 2020 United States census, 2020 census tabulated Rockville's population at 67,117, making it the fourth ..., with a distribution cente ...

Seattle Community Access Network
Seattle Community Access Network (SCAN) is one of the Public, educational, and government access (PEG) cable television channels in Seattle, Washington. The station provides camera equipment, television studios and training that allow residents of King County to create and cablecast their own television shows for a small fee. The station is carried on Comcast and Broadstripe cable systems in King County and the greater Puget Sound region except for six cities covered by Puget Sound Access. History Seattle first acquired a Public-access television station in 1983. Known simply as Channel 29, the station was often referred to as ''Seattle Public Access Network''. The station was operated out of the Northwest Access and Production Center and was owned by the cable company. In August 1999, Seattle Community Access Network was formed as a non-profit organization in order to take over station operations from TCI. Part of the reason for creating the organization was to handle compl ...

CT Scan
A computed tomography scan (CT scan), formerly called computed axial tomography scan (CAT scan), is a medical imaging technique used to obtain detailed internal images of the body. The personnel that perform CT scans are called radiographers or radiology technologists. CT scanners use a rotating X-ray tube and a row of detectors placed in a gantry (medical), gantry to measure X-ray Attenuation#Radiography, attenuations by different tissues inside the body. The multiple X-ray measurements taken from different angles are then processed on a computer using tomographic reconstruction algorithms to produce Tomography, tomographic (cross-sectional) images (virtual "slices") of a body. CT scans can be used in patients with metallic implants or pacemakers, for whom magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is Contraindication, contraindicated. Since its development in the 1970s, CT scanning has proven to be a versatile imaging technique. While CT is most prominently used in medical diagnosis, i ...
