Philippine Sports Hall Of Fame
The Philippine Sports Hall of Fame (PSHOF) is a hall of fame established in 1999 to honor Filipino athletes, trainers, and coaches with the first batch of inductees included in the hall of fame in 2010. The Philippine Sports Commission manages the operations of the hall of fame. Background The Philippine Sports Hall of Fame was established through legislation, particularly Republic Act No. 8757 which was signed into law on November 25, 1999 by then-President Joseph Estrada to "immortalize the Filipino Sports heritage" which were meant to serve as an inspiration to Filipinos. The first time Filipino athletes were inducted in the hall of fame was in 2010. Dionisio Calvo
Dionisio "Chito" Calvo (November 20, 1904 – December 9, 1977) was a Filipino basketball player, swimmer, and coach who mentored both the basketball and football national teams of the Philippines. He was one of the greatest Filipino sportsmen in history and helped in the development of both Philippine and Asian basketball. Early life Born in Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines, Calvo studied at the Ateneo grade school and the Manila high school prior to enrolling at the University of the Philippines college of agriculture at age 18. Paulino Alcántara Riestrá (7 October 1896 – 13 February 1964) was a Filipino and Spanish professional footballer and manager who played as a forward. He spent most of his playing career at FC Barcelona, and also represented Catalonia, the Philippines and Spain internationally. Alcántara made his debut for Barcelona at the age of 15, and remains the youngest player to play or score for the club. He scored 395 goals in 399 matches, a club record that stood for 87 years. Leopoldo Serantes (March 15, 1962 – September 1, 2021) was a Filipino amateur boxer and soldier. Arianne Cerdeña (born March 11, 1962) is a Filipino ten-pin bowling player.
