''Marvel's The Defenders'' is an American television miniseries created by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez (writer), Marco Ramirez for the streaming service Netflix, based on the Marvel Comics characters Daredevil (Marvel Comics character), Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist (character), Iron Fist, who form the Defenders (comics), eponymous superhero team. Defenders (comics)
The Defenders are a set of superhero groups with rotating membership appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. They are usually presented as a "non-team" of individualistic "outsiders" who, in their prior adventures, are known for following their own agendas. The team often battle mystic and supernatural threats. Its original incarnation was led by Doctor Strange and included Hulk, Namor, and Silver Surfer. They first appeared as the Defenders in '' Marvel Feature'' #1 (Dec. 1971), before receiving their own title, '' The Defenders'', in 1972. ''Defender'' is a 1981 horizontally scrolling shooter video game developed by Williams Electronics for arcades. The game is set on either an unnamed planet or city (depending on platform) where the player must defeat waves of invading aliens while protecting astronauts. Development was led by Eugene Jarvis, a pinball programmer at Williams; ''Defender'' was Jarvis's first video game project and drew inspiration from ''Space Invaders'' and ''Asteroids''. ''Defender'' was demonstrated in late 1980 and was released in March 1981. It was distributed in Japan by Taito. The Chicago Defender
''The Chicago Defender'' is a Chicago-based online African-American newspaper. It was founded in 1905 by Robert S. Abbott and was once considered the "most important" newspaper of its kind. Abbott's newspaper reported and campaigned against Jim Crow-era violence and urged black people in the American South to settle in the north in what became the Great Migration. Abbott worked out an informal distribution system with Pullman porters who surreptitiously (and sometimes against southern state laws and mores) took his paper by rail far beyond Chicago, especially to African American readers in the southern United States. Under his nephew and chosen successor, John H. Sengstacke, the paper dealt with racial segregation in the United States, especially in the U.S. military, during World War II. The ''Foreigner'' series is a science fiction book series set in a fictional universe created by American writer C. J. Cherryh. The series centers on the descendants of a ship lost in transit from Earth en route to found a new space station. It consists of a series of semi-encapsulated trilogy arcs (or sequences) that focus on the life of Bren Cameron, the human ''paidhi'', a translator-diplomat to the court of the ruling atevi species. Currently twenty-two novels have been published between 1994 and 2023. Cherryh has also self-published two ebook short story prequels to the series, "Deliberations" (October 2012) and "Invitations" (August 2013). Cherryh calls the series " First Contact". ''The Defender'' is a 1936 novel by F. J. Thwaites. It was his eighth novel. In 1937 the novel was reprinted in the United Kingdom. In 1937, it was announced a film version of the novel would be made at National Studios, following production of '' The Flying Doctor'', but the movie did not eventuate. There were allegations Thwaites plagiarised from a story in ''Master Detective'' magazine, "The Startling Mystery Aboard the SS Chinese Prince". This was in addition to plagiarism accusations made by Thwaites about his earlier novel '' Flames of Convention''. "Defender" is a song by Australian singer–songwriter Gabriella Cilmi, released as the third single from her second studio album '' Ten''.
