Brothers Union
Brothers Union () is a professional football club based in Gopibagh, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It currently competes in the Bangladesh Premier League, the top flight of Bangladeshi Football. The club was founded in 1949, patroned by local Gopibagh businessmen. Nicknamed the Oranges, Brothers Union spent the late 70s and early 80s as one of the pioneers of Bangladeshi football, behind Abahani Limited Dhaka and Dhaka Mohammedan. Throughout their history, Brothers Union have built a reputation for spotting and developing young talent, especially during the club's legendary coach Abdul Gafur Baloch's regime from 1972 to 1986. The club earned promotions from the Dhaka Third Division Football League and Dhaka Second Division Football League in 1973 and 1974, respectively. Ishraque Hossain
Ishraque Hossain (; born 5 April 1987) is a Bangladeshi politician and a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He is the son of former Mayor of Dhaka, Sadeq Hossain Khoka. He contested the 2020 Dhaka South City Corporation election as the BNP's mayoral candidate. On March 27, 2025, the Election Tribunal of Dhaka declared him the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation. Early life and education Ishraque Hossain was born on April 5, 1987, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, into a distinguished Muslim family. Team Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (Team BJMC) was a football club in Bangladesh that was mainly located in the city of Dhaka. History The club was formerly known as East Pakistan IDC prior to 1971 and Bangladesh JIC from 1971 until 1975, from which point onward the club had been renamed to Team BJMC. Khandoker Wasim Iqbal
Khandoker Wasim Iqbal (; born 21 November 1961) is a retired Bangladeshi football player and coach. He mainly played as a right winger, and was one of the most recognised players during the early years of Bangladeshi football. He was a prominent member of the Bangladesh national team from 1982 to 1990. Sadeque Hossain Khoka
Sadeque Hossain Khoka (12 May 1952 – 4 November 2019) was a Bangladeshi politician. He served as the 2nd mayor of Dhaka City Corporation during 2002 to 2011. He was the vice chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and was President of undivided Dhaka city BNP for longest period of the organisation's existence. Mohammed Mohsin
Mohammed Mohsin (; born 3 April 1963) is a former Bangladeshi football player and coach. He spent his entire playing career with Brothers Union and captained the club alongside the Bangladesh national team in 1979. Moshin was a member of the 1980 AFC Asian Cup squad. He is also considered to be one of the best forwards to ever play for Bangladesh and was a lethal marksman in Dhaka football during the mid-1970s and early 1980s. Hasanuzzaman Khan Bablu
Hasanuzzaman Khan Bablu (; born 5 May 1955) is a retired Bangladeshi football player and coach. At the club level, Bablu is most well known for representing Gopibagh-based Brothers Union. In domestic football, he has scored 75 goals including a hat-trick. Bablu also represented the Bangladesh national team in the 1980 AFC Asian Cup and played for his country between 1975 and 1982. Shahid Uddin Ahmed Selim
Shahid Uddin Ahmed Selim (; 23 July 1953 – 5 January 2022) was a Bangladeshi football coach and former player. He spent his entire club career with Brothers Union and had both played for and coached the Bangladesh national team. Selim captained Bangladesh during the 1980 AFC Asian Cup, which was the first and only time the country has qualified for the AFC Asian Cup to date. Club career During the Liberation war in 1971, Brothers Union shut down its club activities. After the war, Selim started reorganizing the players and also attained the services of Pakistani coach Abdul Gafur Baloch. Saifuddin Ahmed Manik
Saifuddin Ahmed Manik was a Bangladeshi communist politician. Early life Manik was born on 24 June 1939 in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, British India. After the Partition of India in 1947, his family moved to Gopibagh, Dhaka. He studied and graduated from Muslim Government High School and Dhaka College. He graduated from Dhaka University with a masters in political science. He was a founder of Brothers Union and Chhayanaut. While studying in Dhaka University, he was the general secretary of Sangskriti Sangsad.
