Zafiro Records
Zafiro Records was a major Spanish record label that issued records from the 1950s until the 1980s. In addition to issuing recordings by Spanish artists, the label issued many recordings by US and UK artists. Artists to have their recordings issued on the label include Juan Bau, Luisito Gasán, Malena Gracia, Buddy Guy, Los Brincos, Marisol, and Ornella Vanoni etc. Background The Zafiro label was established in 1952. According to the March 27, 1982 issue of ''Billboard'', the company was managed by Esteban Garcia Morencos. Under Morencos was Antonio Ortega, and international business was handled by Angel Prieto. Artists that established their careers with the label were, Maria Dolores Pradera, Los Brincos, Los Relampagos, Juan and Junior, Juan Pardo, Massiel and Juan Manuel Serrat. Rock groups that were signed to the label included Tequila, Obus, Baron Rojo and Leno. Decca Records
Decca Records is a British record label established in 1929 by Edward Lewis (Decca), Edward Lewis after his acquisition of a gramophone manufacturer, The Decca Gramophone Company. It set up an American subsidiary under the Decca name, which became an independent company just before the Second World War. The American spin-off became a subsidiary of MCA Inc. in 1962. Known for its technical innovations, the British parent company grew to become the second most successful recording company in Britain and celebrated fifty years of existence in 1979, shortly before being sold to PolyGram. Both Decca and its former subsidiary were subsequently acquired by Universal Music. Decca and its American spin-off both built up strong catalogues of popular music. The Korgis
The Korgis are an English pop band known mainly for their hit single " Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime" in 1980. The band was originally composed of singer/guitarist/keyboardist Andy Davis (born Andrew Cresswell-Davis 10 August 1949) and singer/bassist James Warren (born 25 August 1951), both former members of 1970s band Stackridge, along with violinist Stuart Gordon and keyboardist Phil Harrison. Career The Korgis released their first single " Young 'n' Russian" in February 1979 on the label Rialto Records, owned by their managers Nick Heath and Tim Heath. Joined briefly by drummer Bill Birks; their next single " If I Had You," was released soon after and moved up to number 13 on the UK Singles Chart, featuring on ''Top of the Pops'' and prompting the release of an eponymous debut album, '' The Korgis'', in July 1979. Mocedades
Mocedades () is a Spanish singing group from the Basque Country, who represented Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1973 with the hit song "Eres tú". Since June 2014, ''Mocedades'' has been the name of two bands: one with Izaskun Uranga as its leader and the other with Javier Garay. A third group, El Consorcio, is composed of former Mocedades members who left the group but have continued a career together outside the Mocedades brand. Group formation In 1967, in the Basque city of Bilbao, three young sisters, Amaya, Izaskun and Estíbaliz Uranga, formed a vocal trio named ''Las Hermanas Uranga'' (''The Uranga Sisters''). ''Record World'' magazine was one of three major weekly music industry trade magazines in the United States, with ''Billboard'' and '' Cashbox''. It was founded in 1946 as ''Music Vendor''. In 1964, it was changed to ''Record World'' under the ownership of Sid Parnes and Bob Austin. It ceased publication on April 10, 1982. History Growth ''Music Vendor'' published its first music chart for the week ending October 4, 1954. ''Record World'' was housed in New York City at 1700 Broadway, at 53rd Street, across the street from the Ed Sullivan Theater. Its West Coast editorial offices were located in Los Angeles on Sunset and Vine. Miguel Fleta
Miguel Burro Fleta (28 December 1897, in Albalate de Cinca, Province of Huesca, Aragon – 29 May 1938, in A Coruña) was a Spanish operatic lyric tenor. Despite his short stage career, lasting from 1919 to 1935, Fleta has been described as one of the most significant Iberian opera singers of the 20th century. Among the important international venues at which he sang were La Scala, Milan, (in 1923-26) and the New York Metropolitan Opera (in 1923-25). Additionally, in 1926, he had the honour of creating the role of Calaf in Giacomo Puccini, Puccini's posthumously-premiered final opera, ''Turandot'', at the insistence of La Scala's principal conductor, Arturo Toscanini. But this taxing dramatic role took him to the limit of his resources and he did not attempt it again. "Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime" is a 1980 single written by James Warren and first performed by British pop band the Korgis, with Warren as the lead singer. It has subsequently been covered by numerous other artists. Background "Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime" features a distinctive synthesizer line as primary sound, based on a prominent keyboards arrangement played by Phil Harrison. The song also is notable for its simple, sparse lyrics, but with a direct message. Related to that, lead singer and bassist James Warren has said that the song took only 10 or 15 minutes to write, after he sang the first thing to come into his mind while he played both the chords and melody on the piano. Introduction Harvey Averne is an American record producer, and the founder of CoCo Records, as well as its many subsidiaries. Juan Pardo is a Spanish born singer who had a hit in the early 1980s with " No Me Hables". Background Born Juan Ignacio Pardo Suárez on November 11, 1942, in Spain, Juan Pardo is singer-songwriter. He was a member of the group Los Brincos. He later teamed up Junior, a former Brincos member to form the duo Juan y Junior. At the end of 1980, he returned to the musical scene to launch his successful international career. Juan Y Junior
Juan y Junior was a Spanish musical duo that was active between 1967 and 1969. Its members were the Spanish Juan Pardo (born in 1942) and the Filipino Antonio Morales "Junior" (1943–2014). History Juan y Junior began their careers first as part of the band "Los Pekenikes" and later as part of "Los Brincos" in the 1960s. In February 1967, they formed the duo "Juan y Junior". In 1968 the duo was given the task of composing the entire soundtrack and musical themes for the film '' Solos los dos'', directed by Luis Lucia Mingarro and starring Marisol and Palomo Linares .
