Xylina Spathia
Xylina Spathia (, "The Wooden Swords") were a popular Greek band from Thessaloniki, distinguished by their special and personal sound, which was unprecedented for the Greek music of the era. Their music combines elements from pop, rock and electronic music, maintaining a Greek melodic "colour" at the same time. The personal and experimental lyrics of Pavlos Pavlidis are distinguished for their poetry and the pictures that they give. Generally the band's songs develop an emotional atmosphere, that is sometimes expressed with extroversion and bold rhythms and else with a calm innerness. From 1993 until their break-up, in 2003, the band released 5 albums (4 studio, 1 live) and 1 CD single. Pavlos Sidiropoulos (; 27 July 1948 – 6 December 1990) was a Greek musician noted for combining rock music with Greek music. He is considered one of the pillars of Greek rock due to his involvement so early in its foundation. In particular, ''Flou'' (1976), an album produced with his band Spyridoula, had a major impact on the rock scene in Greece. Early life Pavlos Sidiropoulos was born on 27 July 1948 in Athens, Greece to Konstantinos and Ioanna "Jenny" Sidiropoulos. Nikolaos "Nikos" Papazoglou (in Greek: Νίκος Παπάζογλου; 20 March 1948 – 17 April 2011) was a Greek singer-songwriter, musician, and producer from Thessaloniki. Papazoglou began performing in a number of Greek local groups in the 1960s. In 1972, he moved to Aachen, Germany with the group ''Zilotis'' (, "Zealot") in an attempt to break into the international music scene. The group recorded six songs in Milan, Italy. Shortly afterwards, he returned to Greece. In 1976, Greek songwriter Dionysis Savvopoulos invited him to participate in Acharnees, a cycle of songs and stage acts based on the ancient comedy ''The Acharnians'' by Aristophanes. There Papazoglou met Manolis Rasoulis and in 1978 the two, along with Dionysis Savvopoulos and Nikos Xydakis, produced the influential ''Ekdikisi Tis Gyftias'' (, "Revenge of the Gypsies"). Mode Plagal is an originally Greek group who perform traditional Greek music blended with jazz, funk and other international styles. They have been described as "the preeminent ambassadors of the much-maligned vernacular Greek music in the 21st century" The Athens-based band was formed in 1990 by Thodoris Rellos (saxophone, vocals), Kleon Antoniou (guitar, vocals) and Takis Kanellos (drums).
