Xaar
Xaar (14 March 1995 – 16 May 2021) was a British-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire (horse), sire, best known for his performances as a two-year-old in 1997. In his juvenile season, he won four of his five races, including the Prix de Cabourg and Prix de la Salamandre in France and the Dewhurst Stakes in England. In 1998, he won the Craven Stakes on his debut, but was beaten in his remaining three races. After two further defeats in 1999, he was retired to stud, where he had limited success as a sire of winners. Background Xaar was a very dark-coated bay horse with a white Horse markings#Facial markings, star and strip bred in Britain by Khalid Abdulla's Juddmonte Farms. Champions Mile
The Champions Mile is a Group One, Group 1 Flat racing, flat Horse racing, horse race in Hong Kong for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a distance of 1,600 metres (approximately 1 mile) on the turf at Sha Tin Racecourse with the total purse of HK$14m in 2014/15, approximately US$1.8m. It was first run in 2001, opened to international competition in 2005 and granted an international grade 1 status in 2007. The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) was founded in 1884 and is one of the oldest institutions in Hong Kong. In 1960, it was granted a royal charter and renamed The Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club (). The institution reverted to its original name in 1996 due to the handover of Hong Kong in 1997. Membership of the club is by nomination and election. Vintage Stakes
The Vintage Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in Great Britain open to two-year-old horses. It is run at Goodwood over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late July or early August. History The event was established in 1975, and it was originally classed at Listed level. During the early part of its history it was sponsored by Lanson and known as the Lanson Champagne Vintage Stakes. It was given Group 3 status in 1986. The Vintage Stakes was promoted to Group 2 level in 2003, and from this point it was sponsored by Veuve Clicquot. It is currently held on the opening day of the five-day Glorious Goodwood meeting. Zafonic
Zafonic (1 April 1990 – 7 September 2002) was a European Thoroughbred racehorse bred in Kentucky. He was the 1992 European Champion Two-Year-Old Colt and won the following year's 2,000 Guineas. Background Zafonic was sired by the Mr. Prospector stallion Gone West, out of the Seaton Delaval Stakes winner Zaizafon, a daughter of The Minstrel. He was owned and bred by Khalid Abdullah and conditioned by the French trainer André Fabre. Racing career Racing at age two, Zafonic went undefeated. After winning a minor race at Deauville in August, he followed up with a win in the Group One Prix Morny at the same course ten days later. John Moore (horseman)
John Moore (born 17 March 1950) is a Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. Moore was born in Sydney, Australia, The son of jockey and trainer George Moore. He began working in Hong Kong racing as an assistant to his father in 1971. In 1985, John Moore took out his trainers license and built a highly successful career for himself in Hong Kong.
