Xie Sutai
Xie Sutai (; November 1925 – 18 July 2010) was a Chinese translator. She was most notable for being one of the main translators of the works of the Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy into Chinese. Biography Xie was born in Hebei in November 1925. Xie was accepted to Southwest United University in 1945, where she majored in the Department of Foreign languages. After the Chinese Civil War, Xie was transferred to Tsinghua University. After graduating in 1949, she was appointed an editor at the People's Literature Publishing House. Xie started to publish works in 1950 and she joined the China Writers Association in 1984. Xie died of pneumonia on July 18, 2010, at Chaoyang Hospital () in Beijing. Xie (surname)
Xie (; ) is a Chinese-language surname. lt is usually romanized as "Hsieh" in Taiwan. It is estimated that there are more than ten million people with this surname, most of whom live in Taiwan, Southern China, South East Asia, America, Europe and Africa. It is particularly common in Taiwan where it is the 13th most common surname in 2016. It is also very common in the east Asian diaspora which historically tended to have disproportionately emigrated out of southern China. The China Writers Association (CWA) is a subordinate people's organization of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC). Founded in July 1949, the organization was initially named the China National Literature Workers Association. In September 1953, it was renamed the Chinese Writers Association. In April 2012, the organization changed its translated name to China Writers Association. It now has more than 9,000 registered members, with branch associations across the nation. The first CWA Chair was Mao Dun, under the leadership of the then CFLAC Chairman Guo Moruo. In 1985, Mao Dun was succeeded by Ba Jin. The incumbent chair is Tie Ning since 2006. Chinese Translation Association
The Translators Association of China (TAC) () is a national association for translation studies in China. Founded in the 1980s TAC was part of the academic response to the national Economic Reform in 1978. The incumbent President of TAC's 6th Executive Committee is the former Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, who in the meantime chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee of China. TAC routinely hosts annual national symposium on varied topics related to translation and interpretation theories and practices. To facilitate the academic communication, it publishes bi-monthly periodical '' Chinese Translators Journal'' since 1983. In addition, the Association regulates the domestic translation service market through its Translation Service Committee, which was set up in 2003, in order to promote ethical business practices. Charlotte Nicholls (; 21 April 1816 – 31 March 1855), commonly known as Charlotte Brontë (, commonly ), was an English novelist and poet, the eldest of the three Brontë family, Brontë sisters who survived into adulthood and whose novels became classics of English literature.
