XESOS-AM 730 AM, 730/XHSOS-FM 97.3 FM, 97.3 is a radio station in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. It is owned by Grupo Radiofónico ZER and airs a Regional Mexican format as La Ranchera. History The history of XHSOS begins on the AM band, with a station licensed to Naco, Sonora, Naco. XETM-AM on 1350 kHz was awarded to Jesús Manuel Franco Martínez on March 19, 1941. The station was originally licensed for operation at 1 kW day and night. Francisco Ernesto Ruiz, who would go on to become the Spanish radio play-by-play voice of the Houston Astros, was a disc jockey at XETM from 1972 to 1981. In 2000, XETM was sold to Arnoldo Rodríguez Zermeño, founder of Grupo Radiofónico ZER. Zermeño moved the station to El Sifón (with studios in Agua Prieta), changed its callsign to XESOS-AM and increased its power to 50 kW daytime on 670 kHz. Agua Prieta ("dark water") is a town in the Agua Prieta Municipality in the northeastern corner of the Mexican state of Sonora. Douglas is a city in Cochise County, Arizona, United States, that lies in the north-west to south-east running Sulphur Springs Valley. Douglas has a Douglas, Arizona Port of Entry, border crossing with Mexico at Agua Prieta and a history of mining. The population was 16,531 in the 2020 Census. History The Douglas area was first settled by the Spanish in the 18th century. Presidio de San Bernardino was established in 1776 and abandoned in 1780. Naco, Sonora
Naco is a Mexican town in Naco Municipality located in the northeast part of Sonora state on the border with the United States. It is directly across from the unincorporated town of Naco, Arizona. The name Naco comes from the Opata language and means prickly pear cactus. The town saw fighting during the Mexican Revolution and during a rebellion led by General José Gonzalo Escobar in 1929. During the second conflict, an American pilot by the name of Patrick Murphy volunteered to bomb federal forces for the rebels, but mistakenly bombed Naco, Arizona, instead.
